This is part of day 2 and 3 of my vacation.
We hiked the "Scour Trail", next to Johnson's Shut-Ins.
This is the Ameren reservoir, for their hydro-electric. In 2005, it broke, releasing 1.3 billion gallons of water into the valley, virtually wiping everything out in it's path, hence, Scour Trail. I was talking to one of the locals, and he told me that the water traveled north, meeting the Black River, that travels south. The force was so strong, that it reversed the river's current. Of course the water that naturally traveled south was building up, and once the momentum of the breached water had subsided, all that water build up returned back south. If you look close, you can see the waters path:
Back on the trail:
Wife's new mini espresso maker in action. I did a review of it here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...s-Mini-Espresso-Maker?p=11760897#post11760897
Stopped for a bite:
Went to Johnson's Shut Ins:
A rock that was moved during the breach:
Close up of the sign:
An easy walk to the shut ins:
What the shut ins are:
Sun wasn't favorable, but it was beautiful there:
Stopped at Elephant Rocks on the way home. This place has unique features. It is also an old quarry:
Was gonna roll this one off, but the wife made me put it back down.
No comment:

We had a blast at these places, and really looking forward to going back. Thanks for looking.
