Skystorm, what's that smallest (empty) sheath for?

Not to hijak the thread or anything but does the BK2 carry well in a scout set up?. Using a loaner and I really don't like how it carries on belt, the mass just feels weird to me. I could see a scout carry working with it.

I carry my BK2 with the stock sheath scout style most of the time. I just find it gets in the way less when I'm walking around camp.

To make the stock sheath work for scout carry, I had to add a loop right at the tip of the sheath to prevent the knife from wanting to rotate on the belt because it is more handle heavy.

Here is one of my posts from my BK2 scout carry thread.

I added a loop on the very last two holes at the end of the sheath (yes, the ones that are too small for a belt to go through), but made the loop large enough for my belt to fit through just barely. It looks weird like this unless it is mounted on a belt, but it actually works quite well. In addition to this, I tied off one end of the paracord, and tightened everything up with my needlenose pliers. It honestly works quite well now.

I think that adding the last loop to the tip was the biggest help, as it spread the load over a larger area.

Here are some pics of what I did.

Here is a close up of the just the tip of the sheath.

And here is what it looks like on a belt.

And finally, what it looks like from the top. You can see how widely spread the loops are, and how I use the beltloop in the middle for more support as well.

I think all I have left right now is to figure out how I want to tie this thing off, and to see if I can figure out a way to get my gerber on there in a way that is easy on and easy off. For that... I'm thinking some sort of loops, with the wrench for the handles holding it together. Not sure yet, I'll keep working on it.

So what do you guys think? Not to bad for my first ever paracord wrap if I can say that.

Thanks for the help guys, it has really helped.

I like the idea of the scout carry but have never been able to pull it off myself. I have tried with kydex and a TekLok but it really sticks out and is really uncomfortable for me. I have a leather scout sheath for my SK but carry it in my pocket. The retention isn't great and it also sticks out a lot, BUT it only has one big strappy belt loop. I'm 5'10" and weigh 145 pounds so I can't really accommodate anything too big without something hanging out/over. Some of those pictured here look like they might work out better for my shape and size so, I'm not giving up on the style yet!

Thanks everyone. I'm trying to figure out if scout carry is something I want to pursue or just stick with the standard way of carrying on my belt.

A friend of mine sliced himself pretty good trying to resheath a scout carry knife under stress. What was he doing? He was clearing shooting lanes for deer hunting the next day and a nice buck came along and broadsided him.
I think Lofty Wiseman had it best when he recommended a low dangler style carry, so if you fall, it won't break your ribs, and it's relatively easy to resheath safely under stress.

But that's not what Bear Grylls does!

Also, I just got one of Skystorm's leather scout carry sheaths. I can already say he does a very good job with construction, but I'll let you know how the whole scout carry thing works out. Thanks, Skystorm!

Edit: It's for a BK2.

Thank you, I hope you enjoy it!

Scout draw and return takes practice just like everything else, I find it faster to draw and slower to return which lines up perfectly with my priorities.

I have a scout carry leather sheath for my BK2 no pics tho.

Also not a BK but I am having a custom chopper made by Bruce Culberson that will be 30" long in total and it will have a piggy back 8" knife and one of the carry options will be scout. Why? Cuz it's just dang cool!

This is the BK11/14 sheath that I sell.
