Some of our younger scouts needed to do a five mile hike with a map and compass for their second class requirements, so I decided to take them to Giant Forest for this. Although it was clear and sunny in the valley, the remnants of a storm had Giant Forest in low cloud cover and fog, with scattered showers. First is a pic when we started:

And we found this nice little brook

And a few more of everyone by some nice trees. The first one is one of my favorite sequoias. It is not a named tree, but is pretty large and has a lot of character with the fire scars.

That's some awesome pictures, lambertiana, but then again, your pictures always are.

In the shots with the fog, I expected to see John Rambo jumping out with his Jimmy Lile held between his lips.

What a great place. I was eleven the first time I saw those trees in person, and I was completely awestruck. Now that I think about it, I still am.

As has already been stated......Simply Awesome!

And hiking for a great reason too. I'm just starting to get my 8 yr old into Cub Scouts.

Holy moly those are some BIG trees!!!! I'd love to get out there and check out those things.
