Scout Knife Memorial GAW 2023

I would like to enter for myself. I was kicked out of the scouts as a Webelo because the activities cost too much for us. My mother made up some excuse for why I had to leave, but I knew it was the money and time involved that we really just couldn't afford. It broke my heart as a kid. The funny thing is, right before I got kicked out, I was supposed to start learning to carve. I had a passion for knives as a kid and the idea of wood carving and learning to use a knife at such a young age was really cool to me. As it was, I wasn't really allowed to have a pocket knife until much later in life. Had I stayed in the scouts, that likely would have been different. That being said, I never got the chance to receive a scout knife of my very own. It's kind of silly, but that never sat right with me. Especially considering who I grew up to be. As an adult, I travel all around the world backpacking into the wilderness and living outside as much as I possibly can. I guess you could say that I was forced to leave the scouts but the scouts never left me. So anyway, if it's alright, I'm In!
 
I would like to enter for me nephew. His birthday is coming up in mid June and he knows that Uncle Dan will gift him a knife just as his older brother got one a few years ago.

I was just looking for scout knives yesterday evening as my wife reminded me to get the knife.

I’ll enter for myself too and give to him if I happen to win it.

That was a surprise read, and hit hard. I went to one Cub Scout meeting when we moved to a new town. As soon as my parents learned about the costs, I never returned. They couldn't afford much, and it also broke my heart as a kid. My son is a Webelo now and loves it. I wish I'd grown up scouting, but I love watching my son go through it. He has a blast.

A very sad story but a wonderful GAW in memory of your brother. Unfortunately I've no child around and mine are too old.

I echo what others have said, this is the most meaningful GAW in my opinion and a wonderful tribute to your brother, so sorry for your loss but you've done a great thing here and it's appreciated by so many. A fellow co worker here has two boys in Scouts, Jaxon and Jet, I'd like to nominate either and if one's chosen, I will supply the other brother with a Scout of my own so both brothers share the joy of receiving a gifted knife.
