Scout knife with a twist...

Does anyone make the basic scout pattern, but instead of having the can opener, have a secondary blade or a Phillips screwdriver? The screwdriver/bottle opener and awl are always handy, but I have little use for the can opener, unless maybe car camping. A smaller pen/Wharncliffe blade or Phillips would frequently be put to use. Thanks.

might look into some of the SAK offerings, they are the only maker I can think of that produces a camper pattern currently.

No can opener, but no pen blade

Although one doesn't typically think of SAK's when scout knives are mentioned, I think that Victorinox with it's many models is the best choice for that type of knife.

This has always been a pet peeve of mine.

The knife companies have made variations of stockman, jack, trapper and other patterns. They've substituted a punch or pen blade on stockmen, put wharncliffes on trappers in place of spey's, and other modifications of the like. Yet Camillus, Schrade, PAL, Robson, Imperial, almost never varied the pattern of the scout knife. Or even expanded it a bit. I'd have thought that with the rising poularity of the Swiss Army knife as a knife form of it's own, that Camillus or somebody wouldhave had the idea "Hey, look what the Swiss are doing. We can do that better. We'll even have jigged bone scales." No, it never happened. All through the 60's, 70's, and even 80's, I'd have thought that with dwindling market shares, they would have tried it. Instead they just went under.

I'd have loved to see the scout pattern expanded. With American know how and old time materials, we could have outdone the Swiss at their own game. Imagine a Camillus made tinker with jigged bone and 1095 carbon steel.

Victorinox Alox Electrician? It has a wire stripping blade in place of the can opener, which is actually a very nice sheepsfoot. There is s hawkbill version, as well. Both models have a main spear blade, cap lifter, and punch.

I have come close to buying the electrician so many times. I need to just do it. Great combination of tool and blade.

Carl, I 100% agree. It is shocking no one made a go of it. Maybe GEC will get creative? An electrician style knife would be awsome in jigged bone, ivory or stag. How about a worm grooved from S&M? Mmmm ya I could pocket that ;)

Jackknife, you hit the nail on the haed. GEC, Queen, Canal Street, are you listening? I'll have to look at the SAK options, but the bolstered, jigged bone knife is really what i was lookong for.

I personally have not seen what you are describing, but back in time Camillus made a scout knife---official Boy Scout knife ----with the standard set up and a phillips screwdriver on it.

Jigged bone would be good, but I'd go for a nice rosewood, smooth bone, or even (dare I wish it?) some nice India stag with lots of bark. I'd pay extra for that. If they kept to the same frame/chasis, they could have some spare blade options. I'd love a scout with an extra pen or sheepsfoot blade. The scout knife is an old standard pattern with a certain generation of American men. Often, it was their first 'real' knife given by a father when you first joined the boy scouts. As nice as SAK's are, it's a shame we have to go to an offshore knife. I'd live to see Case comeout with a scout in chestnut bone or amber bone. CV of course!

This is a F. Hartkopf, Solingen without a can opener. I has a corkscrew, I don´t know if you need it.

There are no other tools on this knife. Blade, bottle opener / screwdriver and a corkscrew.

Kind regards
Andi

I'm starting to feel like this thread should be saved for next year's BF Traditional

The can opener tip from victorinox works as a phillips driver. Not really a scout pattern, but I think the Compact is very useful, and only a 2-layer SAK. Ballpoint pen, and scissors are really handy, and I can't count the number of times the straight pin is needed, not just for digging out a splinter, but poking debris out of small holes/apertures etc. or pulling a loop of string through a small eyelet, etc.

The Boker Camp knife has an extra blade, but still doesn't totally fit the bill with no Phillips bit.

The Case Camper adds a pliers, which have gotten me out of a jam more than once, but again it doesn't have a Phillips or an extra blade. It's a brick in the pocket too, so I carry mine on my belt.

Sweet knives though :)

It's called the Pioneer Rancher. Great knife, one of my favorites. The small pruning blade on it is perhaps one of the best tools ever made for dealing with clamshell packaging.

Hi, I'm a longtime lurker and this is my first post.

I have the knife that the Op is asking about!

It is an Imperial Deluxe Boy Scout Knife with a Phillips screwdriver and awl on one end and main blade, can opener and cap lifter/flat blade screwdriver on the other end. It has nice wood scales with a metal shield and is a bit smaller than a regular Boy Scout Knife. There isn't a bail.

I purchased it at the Boy Scout dept. of a local department store for $11.00 in 1960!

Not being a paying member, I don't think I can send any photos. Later, PapaBearVT

Victorinox Electrician. I don't carry this knife as much as I should... Its got exactly what I'm looking in an EDC but I want bone or wood or etc...

Here's one I photographed recently for the New Mexico Scouting Museum. The phillips screwdriver is broken off, but you get the idea.
