Scout knife with a twist...

CM-BSA046.jpg

It's called the 5-blade deluxe camp knife and was made by Camillus but is, of course, discontinued. I was able to find a few sites selling them still, and a couple of ebay postings but nothing linkable on BF so you'll have to google it if you're interested. It doesntt do away with the bulk of a can opener but does give you the Philips.

Credit to Papa Bear VT, I just looked up a photo 'cuz I'm gold.

Hi, I'm a longtime lurker and this is my first post.

Not being a paying member, I don't think I can send any photos. Later, PapaBearVT

We'd love to see the photos- There's dropbox and photobucket and probably a couple of other free services.

Very close, I think I actually would get the Vic Pioneer Rancher, looks like what I want, without the bolsters or decent scales though. Part of what I want is not an extra blade, but the pen blade in PLACE of the can opener; otherwise it just gets to bulky and heavy. Thanks for all the thoughts guys, maybe soon we'll make it a BladeForums knife.

I'm starting to feel like this thread should be saved for next year's BF Traditional

All you folks have to do is subscribe to the thread. Then it will be in your subscribed threads list and you'll be able to find it easily for next year.

The other tool an update American camper should have is scissors.

It would be awsome if this forum did this for next years forum knife.

I'd be so bold as to suggest Bear and Sons. The camper should be utilitarian and at a low price point. I don't need fancy scales. Jigged blue plastic or saw cut Derlin are just fine. All I demand is carbon blades and a properly shaped spear point. Hate the Vic spear.

But please modernize the blade selection

The Deluxe Camp Knife with Phillips bit like justsomedude posted above is still available from Scout Shops nationwide, it just isn't made by Camillus anymore. I bought one for my son and it is quite nice, so nice in fact that he won't use it as he doesn't want to get it messed up(!) I told him I'd get him another if he did but for now he sticks with his BSA marked Vic Tinker and a one-hander I gave him.

Here's one I passed to my nephew and I agree with what Carl said. I know they're not made over here but they do make traditionals copying the good old American patterns, but I think I remember seeing a Rough Rider with G-10 scales with a PH scew driver.

I had an Electrician and still have the Rancher. EDC it, actually. As a previous poster stated - that pruner blade is the answer to that wretched clamshell packaging (and quite a few other things). If they'd use a more wear resistant steel in the main blade I would have my grail EDC.
