Hello all,
My son's Cub Scout troop is gearing up for their annual Pinewood Derby, and they invited the dads to participate as well, so, I thought I'd take the liberty of showing the fruits of my labors. Couple of hours with a block of pine and my trusty Izula II, and you can see the results for yourselves. Thanks, Jeff and Mike, for such a quality knife and great customer service!

Okay, how come my images aren't showing up? Suggestions? Never had a problem before now.

EDIT: Fixed it! Yay!

where are the images stored? url? maybe the server is blocking external pages that references it?

Hadn't really thought about it, but I guess it does have a "batmobile" thing about it. This is actually what inspired it:

I just sketched it out on the block of wood and started carving and this is what I came up with.

UMMM, isn't your kid supposed to do the work on the pine wood derby car he's running? Or is this for the "Dad's Division"?

This is the Dad's Division. My son has his own car. He just doesn't have an Izula yet. That's more of why I was posting this.

Did you really do all of that with an Izula?

I just did one that didn't turn out half that nice and I used dremels, coping saws, drills, etc. Awesome job.

thats sweet! i did one in middle school that had the wheels inside. what motor you putting in it that needs a whale fin like that??

Thats a sweet looking pinewood derby car, great job.

I can't wait to see it when your finished.

Sweet looking pinewood derby car! My hats off to you with those carving skills, impressive.

I still have mine from years ago too. Our Dads catagory years ago was to make tractor trailers.

Cool stuff man. What's the weight requirement on a PWD, 5 oz or something? That's going back almost 20 years!

Mike, you're absolutely right...part of the challenge I gave myself was to see how well I could do with a blade not designed for this task. I found myself several times wishing for a sheepsfoot or a spey, but despite this, I'm pleased with the end result. I just took it slowly.

Last night, I gave it a coat of wipe-on polyurethane as a sealant, and sprayed some high-gloss black today. I'll sand it and respray a couple more coats, and then try another coat or three of poly as a clear coat and protectant.

Through it all, this knife has stayed sharp! I might give it a touch up later, but it's still amazingly sharp. BTW, this is the factory sharpening job...I haven't done anything with the edge. NICE!

Duramax 6.6L, PPE tune stacked with Kennedy ECM, twin turbos, 700hp, 1150 ft lbs of torque, running B100 biodiesel: My car is a vegetarian.

you did that with only using the izula? WOW! thats awesome. having been a scoutmaster myself, i know what goes into one of these. that might be the best one i have ever seen! i have always thought the izulas would make a pretty fair whittilin knife. especially with the pinky hole for controlability. unfortunately BSA has a no sheath knife rule. i think it's gay, but there would be 12 year olds running around with junglas pulling their pants down if they did not have that rule. i have seen some pretty unsafe folders in these kids hands, the BSA should adopt the izula as their official knife.
awesome job on the car!

That's an awesome car! And great job with the Izula, i have got to get one of those.
