Dan is out of town and has no access to the internet at this time. . . .

He wanted me to let you guys know that the hosting company said that the hard drive on the Scrap Yard dedicated server had burned up and that they are rebuilding the database or some other computer gobbledy gook blah. . . blah. . . blah. . . .

Anyway, you should be back up and running within the next 72 hours. . .

Until then, you homeless dogs can feel free to hang out here amongst the HOGs. . . .

Let's Drink!!!

Bummer it is down. I am in IT and will "justify" (oh poor me, spend time at the shop playing with cool blades) a trip to the shop if you want to discuss how to keep the issue from happening. The hosting company should have this set up with a redundant virtual server as your COOP as a minimum. Think of it as your no questions asked warranty. I deal with this everyday as my customers cannot have any down time (DoD) and if my company site is down we lose $1M per hour.

Thank Jerry for the update. I hope the problem doesnt cause to much damage. Theres a lot of info on there.
I'll be drinking until its running!

I hope they can rebuild the site without loss of the old threads ... there was a lot of good information on there ...

AMEN BROTHER!

Besides all the information we depend on every day, I don't know if I could stand the strain of being a puppy at my age again!;)

Someone is always referring to older posts and it WOULD be a shame to have to start from scratch like the Swamp.

Thanks for the word on this Jerry.

Hey Jerry, since we are being deprived of our life's blood, how about a free knife for anyone with over Oh say 20,000 posts maybe? (I would have said over 42K posts but didn't want to be the only one to cash in on your generosity).;):)

Problem is that when the site crash we have no proff of the amount of post free
Knives for everyone.

This ^

There should be no excuse for your data being lost for 72 hours, let alone a week. Even with Skunkhunter's impressive post count, the database simply shouldn't take up enough space to take this long to restore even if they do not have redundant storage and have to fetch it from tape. Oddly enough I see these kinds of issues on forums all the time, and I think the same thing RWT posted above every time. More than likely they are right now cursing because they don't have backups and have sent the disk off to a recovery service.

Of course everything ultimately comes down to price, and if you found some hosting company that is really run out of some guy's basement on and old laptop..well... :) That being said, I could probably provide more reliable hosting out of a laptop in my basement ;)
