Hello,

I just came across this quote and it really caught my imagination.

But than again, almost everything has this effect on me. A few days earlier I was sitting in my shed, doing nothing, staring at a dead fly on my desk, imagining how its short life could have been, and what will happen to its carcass when I finally sweep it off of the table, till it became dark, when I realized I was doing this for more than half an hour. It felt kinda stupid, but was also a pleasant half an hour for some reason.
Anyway, I can't shake off this feeling that we are all recycled material, right? I mean nature doesn't waste anything. At some point parts of me were only atoms floating around pointlessly in space, than at another point I was experiencing fusion, with unimaginable heat and pressure inside of a gigantic star, after that I was maybe part of a dead Triceratops's toenail which is thorn apart by raptors, now I live, love, hate, some day will die, and after a while I will be a yellowish dying leaf on some bush, facing a harsh winter, or maybe a leg on a centipede, who is just eating a frog, and after that I will experience how our beautiful Earth is swallowed by the hungry sun, which is bloating and running out of fuel and at the very end the scattered atoms, callous remnants which once built my body, will run out of vibration, slow down till they finally stop oscillating, reaching −273.15°C and cease to exist.

It is quite weird, but also kind of comforting in a way that my existence isn't bordered by my twinkle-like "conscious" life.

Well, under the aegis of recycling, I made this little scrapmascus cleaver, forged of countless damascus bits and offcuts.
It is 36.5 cm in total, the blade is 24.5 cm long, 6.1 cm wide at its maximum and 5 mm thick, which gets gradually thinner towards the tip. It is forged of all kinds of steels, like 1.2516. L6, 5160, S80 and other kinds of spring steels and saw blade steels. It probably has thousands of layers. 
The handle is oak with tube pins.
The sheath is made of 3 mm thick sturdy cow hide.

I ask 250 usd for this one. Paypal is accepted ;)

Congratulations, Szilard. You win BladeForums™ today. That story alone is worth the $$.

Great knife too, somebody had better (hint hint) pick it up soon.

haha, thanks! :) Guess I am staring pointlessly around and thinking too much about the unalterable.
Well, you might just have to see it here for quite some time. These scrapmascuses usually aren't very demanded, especially with weird forms like this one ;)

Another great piece!

That was like a literary acid trip followed by pictures of a beautiful knife.

Now I'm going to contemplate this for a while. Slaughterhouse is right. Hellize wins BFC today.

Better this way than the other way around. ;)
Thanks a lot by the way! :D

I actually have a legitimate question, and I hope it's ok to ask here.
If one has "scrapmascus" with so many types of steel that are so very different, how does one heat treat to get optimum performance? I'd imagine such different steels to have very different HT protocols and having them all in one blade would make for a very challenging heat treat if one wants to maximize each steel. Again, if it's not ok to ask that here, I apologize and will gladly delete my post.

it really is a very gorgeous knife.

If I was in the market for a chopper, this would be the one. That scrapmascus looks like a topographical map of a psychosis [emoji12]

I use always these steels in my damascus's which get along with each other quite well, they need almost the same heath and the same method. It is just like any other damascus, I mean the hardness isn't uniform, one layer is harder than the other and the variation can be even around 3 points between layers, because of the different steels.
Heath treating wasn't the problem here. The problem was the VERY varying layercount. It made the blade apt to bend when quenching. Now to fix that was the real pain in the ass ;)

The story, reactions and technical curiosity alone are worth it! Well if everyone else is just going to chat, I am going to buy it....BUT...only if the star traveler copies and autographs his quote on the bill of sale in case we get hit by a comet and turn to stardust so I know what rabbit hole to climb into when we are repurposed! SOLD to me with a quote! I will take it!

I messed up the timing....I am far far away now on another planet. Rats. Sorry, my apologies. Or seconds if it falls through...?

Cool words! :)
The gentleman who reserved it, said payment might take some time, about 2-3 weeks. So we have to wait a lot to know it for sure. But of course if he backs up, you are second in line for it.
However, if you like the concept, I could make you something similar, in this time. Luckily I have plenty of off cut damascus pieces, the price would be the same. What do you think?

This one is gone, but if you wish to have similar one, please don't hesitate to contact me! ;)
