Was just wandering from you guys that have recieved your Scrapper 4...how is the sharpness ?? is it shaving sharp, medium sharp, ???

was just curious,,

I have mine. It shaves, but the edge is still very thick, so I would call it medium sharp. I'll almost certainly be sending it in for a re profile.

I got mine today. The edge is shaving sharp. Every Busse, Swamp Rat and now Scrap Yard knive I have purchased has come that way. My Battle Rat was scary sharp.

About 3/4 of mine have been sharp enuf to shave NIB. Pretty much all of my Game Wardens have. And every Basic that has passed thru my hands has been SCARY sharp. :)

I'm unlucky then, because mine can't scrape hair, let alone shave it. Toilet paper is right out, I'm sure.

Where would I send it for reprofiling? Will the factory do this?

I should note that I may be a little spoiled. I've spent the majority of my time and money over the years on Spyderco blades, some of which have come so insanely sharp. I've owned eight Busse/SRKW/SYKW blades total, and only one came what I consider truly sharp, ad that was a Howling Rat. All the others had edges so thick they couldn't be sharpened on a sharpmaker without reprofiling. Still most of them came shaving, only one or two dull. I just like to be able to lay my blades across the SM to touch them up. All my blades havr since been reprofiled.

I have handled a Basic with the Asymmetrical edge, and it was incredible. I'd kill for a Basic 9 in Asym edge. That would be the king chopper.

Also, Busse will reprofile edged for free. Had it done many time, and they do a fantastic job.

Shaving sharp. Very nice blades. Especially at the price for INFI.

I wonder if ScrapYard, which is supposedly separate, will do the same?

Thumbing mine and looking at the edge would make you think it's easily hair popping sharp, but mine won't even scrape hair let alone shave. It is fairly thin, finish is similar to my battle mistress (which did pop hairs ). The mistress had some tooth to the edge though, the scrapper does not, which leads me to believe it was just buffed a little too much.

Edge is slightly uneven, will not shave hair, tears paper,
can run finger right down the edge with out cutting finger.

If I decide to use it I'll put a nice edge on it.
If I ain't gonna use it then a non-sharp edge keeps me from cutting myself
when I fondle it

I'm in the same boat. None of my Busses/SYCO's have been shaving sharp. Then again, I have very fine hair. The only knives that have "popped hairs" off my arm have been BRKT's (polished convex @ ~ 13 degrees), and a reprofiled BM 710 (12,000 grit Japanese waterstone ~ 15 degrees). Spydercos will shave but need to rest on the skin. YMMV.

While I share your admiration for the Basic series fine edge, the Niner is actually a little weak on the chopper scale due to its relatively neutral balance compared to the Battle Mistresses. See my comments in the thread linked below for more extensive overview.

Now, if you want to talk about handle ergos....:thumbup:

My FBM and Mojo were scary dull, but the FBM sharpened up very nicely in no time (probably 5 minutes) and I'm a sharpening tard.

I've had most of my Busse family knives edge thinned. Most came with a utilty edge...great for abuse! :) The ones I have not had reprofiled are Basic 7, SHBA, and OD ratchet. Takin' the Skeleton Warden for a reprofile today.
Oh, the asymmeteric edge on the Basic 7? WICKED!
