Scored a scrapper 5 last night - thanks Jim ! I plan on stripping it and using it!

What do you gents think of this blade

You're quite in a swing, Brendan...:thumbup::)

I think the SS5 is an extremely useful blade. I have an LE, and I carry it almost on every outing. it's light, usable blade lenght for everyday chores as food prep, etc. I believe it's a good blade for skinning, too. small enough to carry IWB, I carry it in a kydex with a paracord - kind of a DIY MercHarness, handle down. I convexed and thinned the edge a bit, tho'.
I like more the exposed-full tang blades and micarta handles, but the mudders make this knife so light.

What do I think? I NEED one!

The thing is perfect. Could see it used for lightweight backpacking, cleaning animals, or in the kitchen and toss it in the dishwasher.

Great score

It's really not that light or thin as it appears in pictures. I think it's heavy with a thick blade. It feels solid in the hand. That said, I really like mine:thumbup:

building back up after a very hard few years mate !!

Things been kind of hard on this side of the pond too Brendan just hang in there. I'm sure you'll have more Infi before you know it. That Scrapper 5 looks like a nice all rounder.
I don't have one but I would'nt mind having one.

thanks my friend, unlikely though - I'm heading back to SA in 8 weeks and rands don't buy much. Another reason I'm building up the stock quickly !!

Well just keep your head up bro, you know what they say things always get worse before they get better. Hopefully this world will get straightened back out again. :)

you too brother !! We hit rock bottom on 3rd September last year and since then things have been steadily improving !! Very humbling but it's done wonders for our relationship, we always had a very strong and special thing going but hell, when it gets tested like ours has been you know that nothing can even dent you !!

I think the Scrapper 5 is an incredible knife... lightweight, not too thick or thin, good ergonomics. It will be a great user. Enjoy your new knife!

I stripped, clipped, jimped, and choiled mine. Just posted pictures of it yesterday on the Scrapyard site.

The S5 is too blade heavy for me. I'll stick with my RatManDu even though it 's heavier and it's not made out of INFI.

I know you've said you had a bunch of Busses, but have you ever had any satin SR-101 before, Brendan? The reason I ask is, it's one of the worst rusting knife steels I've ever dealt with - worse than 1095 even. If you keep up with it, keeping it oiled or treating it regularly with tuff cloth, it will be fine, but after getting spoiled by INFI I just didn't feel like dealing with the upkeep. That's why I sold my M9LE, which is a knife I otherwise loved.

I dig the S5CG a lot, but I'd leave it coated, personally.

Your a buying machine Brendan! ;)

I havent had the issues with SR101 that some have had, my main user is a Rat Mastiff that I stripped as soon as I got it and never treated it since I rubbed it down with Flitz. Chopped and split both green and dry wood since and simply cleaned and re sheathed in leather, stored there as well.

Weather can be a factor though, its not all that dry in the UK.

I have to say that Ive owned 2 5 inch knives....the BATAC and the SS5 LE...

SS5LE IMO is super light (in comparison to the BATAC), the mudder handles give excellent grip and dont add much weight like micarta or G10. And its made of INFI. I think its plain perfect and is light enough to take as an add on blade on any trip.....

Get the SE version though, same as the LE without the number and the huge price attached!

My S5CG was the first Bussekin I owned and likely the last id let loose of. Its fairly light, of a useful size, and tank tough. And mudders are probably the most comfortable knife handel ive ever held.
