Scrapper 5 Thoughts

Overall I like it but I would much prefer to have a full flat grind, especially at this over-thickness (for me).

I have to say that Ive owned 2 5 inch knives....the BATAC and the SS5 LE...

SS5LE IMO is super light (in comparison to the BATAC), the mudder handles give excellent grip and dont add much weight like micarta or G10. And its made of INFI. I think its plain perfect and is light enough to take as an add on blade on any trip.....

Get the SE version though, same as the LE without the number and the huge price attached!

the SE was only like 10 bucks cheaper...?

Low res and taken in the dark, but you get the idea...

I love the scrapper 5. Not to big, not to small. I could edc mine comfortably, even while driving if I had the need to. It's large enough to chop small branches off poles for walking sticks, etc. as well as a formidable weapon. Small enough to do finer camp chores. Light, great handle that eliminates vibrations when batoning. The SR101 steel takes a very fine edge.
It may not matter for such a serious tool but IMO it's one of the sexiest knives around.

I held one around Thanksgiving. They feel super light in the hand. I was holding one while playing with a very wide assortment. For example, compared to the SS, or Boss street it feels light. And the SS is not a heavy knife. It also felt lighter in my hand than the .22 pumpkin GW I have.

The handle felt great, and the knife seemed like a very useable size, with a very utilitarian blade shape.

I wanted one immediately.

I think you won't be giving up much at all to get one in SR101 either. As some have said, that steel does rust. If you decide to strip it, just force a patina with mustard, and you will be good to go. Sure, Infi will be much less likely to ever have a rust problem, but heck, people have been using high carbon steel forever.

My S5LE is my favourite small Infi design ....

Stripped SR101 works fine for me in the UK if your worried about doing your CG .... my RMD has never rusted .... I coat it in Vasilene for wet conditions and it's a handy none toxic fuel for a fire ...

very helpful post - thanks mate

They make a great general purpose lightweight companion knife. I love the LE's/SE's ground from INFI. They're nice & sharp, too! :D

The S5 LE is one of my favorite knives from the Wauseon shop over the years. It does well for kitchen chores, although rigid veggies like the carrot respond better to a thinner blade. However, it would fit well I think for a "you can only carry one knife" scenario, where its relatively light weight, convenient size, and extreme toughness would recommend it. Not that I'll replace my grail Basic 7 users with it. ;) :D

NOTE: I removed the thumb hump on mine after seeing how sleek Peter's looked.
