What the heck is a guy supposed to do with scraps like this? It's Acacia Flooring - about 11/16 thick and 3 1/2 inched wide. I have several bags of it and it's WAY too nice for the firepit.

Anybody interested in doing some trading?

Acacia is in the legume family so the seeds are in a pod. The family includes locust, kentucky coffee tree, mesquite, koa .Good hardwoods and can be found with some very attractive grain.

How about plaques or presentation boxes for your knives..?

How hard and dense is it?

Thanks Mete

I knew about Koa and Gidgee but was wondering about others. I read that there are something like 188 species of Acaia - and apparently it is good enough that God specified it for building of the ark. I have no idea which species this one is.

Phillip. I know Tom Mayo uses unstabilized Koa for handles and I'm told many others do as well. The guy who was laying the floor told me it seemed harder than hickory.

Frank - I have no idea. I just have more of it than I could ever use. (Though the boxes idea has me thinking!) Tell you what. If you'll change that freaky avatar, I'll send you a piece free. :D

Ya interested in some american tamahagane? I'm doing a larger smelt once I have enough charcoal and ore (2 weeks?).

Make masonic knives or use for a sword handle.

Acacia is super holy to the Masons.

Of course I'm interested - but I have to ask. Does a stock removal guy stand any chance with it???

Rob- do you have any uneven slabs of African Blackwood? Got a bunch from Lee Valley a while ago, always want new wood (get any sheets of 3/32" CPM154 yet?)
