Scrapyard Knives

There are several ways to measure wear resistance, for example the adhesive wear resistance of O1 is higher than D2 while the abrasive wear is reversed. How the steel is hardened also makes a difference, rarely do different manufacturers test at the exact same hardening methods.

This is the second time I've read that the stain resistance of S77 is lower than SR101 (which is lower than INFI) so am I the only one wondering why this is the only line that seems to be offering a naked blade in the standard line?

Maybe stain resistance is part of the mod?

Also, the properties mentioned seem to make this perfect for the Crash Axe (already "pre-ordered" mine), but considering we already have INFI and SR101, does anybody know why another knife line?

I'm still bumming about missing out on a Camp Tramp- I like the SR101 w/resiprene. :grumpy:

Did you see the price on the Scrapyard line? It's fantastic! I didn't get one at BLADE, but will be getting some when the full line is available.

This is based on some vague comments from knifemakers comparing S7 to 52100 often such information is not based on actual data and often quickly turns into net "facts" because of repetition without confirmation. Based on the composition it would seem likely that S7 has a higher corrosion resistance than 52100 not less, as it has less carbon, more chromium and more molybdenum. However judging such properties from elemental composition is not trivial hence the need for materials tests and not just recipes for steels. Conjecture is fine and always welcomed in discussions but it should always be presented clearly as such.

I will say that S7 has better stain resistance then 5160. I have two knives in S7 and many in 5160 and the S7 has always been less maintenace. My experience anyway for what that is worth.
