For general (and up to heavy-duty) outdoors use, which would you prefer and why? Convince me why one is better-suited for hard use so I can make a final decision

I had a Scrapper 6 and I have an RD 6. I feel that the Scrapper 6 with the resperene handles (At least for me.) is much more comfortable for chopping.

Both should hold up to very hard use. The scrapper may be a little tougher, as S7 steel is about as tough as it gets. But 5160 is tough as nails too and should have better edgeholding. It really comes down to personal preference. My pick would be the ranger, but u won't go wrong with either.

+1 on that. Both are tough blades, but among my chopping blades nothing compares to the Resiprene C handles

The S6 is a tank of a knife. I have never put anything through the crap I have put my S6 through! That would be and has always been my choice.

I'd go with the Scrapyard. Noss tested both and the Ranger
seemed to have a fragile tip. The Scrapper gave him
hell, but he did break it finally. :)

Here is another vote for the S6. I took a S6 on my last few camping trips last summer and it proved to be a very very tough knife. I even tried out the tip so I stabbed it into a tree pretty hard and pushed the knife over to the side and it popped out the wood and had no damage. It cuts very well and chops just good for it's size.

Best of luck to ya,
John

It's really difficult to go wrong with either one. But unless you know someone who has a Scrapper 6 they're willing to sell you on the cheap, you're going to pay a LOT more for the Scrapper 6 than you will for the RD-6. And as popular as Scrapper 6's are, you may have a tough time even finding one.

If price and availability aren't an object, I'd recommend the Scrapper 6. If they are, the RD-6 is still an excellent choice.
