What can I use to remove a small scratch from Black Linen micarta, without damaging the scale?

What kind of finish is on the Micarta?

Testosterone.

This will also work. All you need is a long needle and a syringe. Just pull some out of your balls, rub it into the Micarta, and you're good to go! Great scratch remover.

Enough with the smart-alec comments. This person is asking a reasonable question. :grumpy:

Birdave, start with a fine-grit sandpaper (400 or higher) wrapped around some sort of sturdy backing like a wood block. If that doesn't even out the surface, go to a coarser grade. Once you've gotten the scratch out*, go back to finer grits and smooth/polish the surface to your satisfaction.

*remember, to "remove" a scratch you actually have to bring the rest of the surface down to the depth of the flaw.

Arakiel & Dan57...I took your advice and tried the testosterone...my balls hurt like hell and the scratch is still there!!

James, I think I'll try your method as it sounds a lot less painful...thanks for an honest reply, it's appreciated.

Sorry, apparently I got testosterone confused with elbow grease. Honest mistake.

if it's polished micarta, you may be able to buff it out with some polishing compound depending on the severity of the scratch.

Took James Terrio's advice...used 800 grit to gently sand out the scratch and lightly buffed small spot with 0000 steel wool. A little mineral oil and then some Renaissance wax and the scale looks fine. Thanks James, it's appreciated!

As for the testosterone method...using the long needle, a syringe and my balls...all I can say is, I hope my wife doesn't read this thread...she'd love to try that!
