Hi all-

Any suggestions for getting scratches "out" on the face of a AUS-8 blade(C52BMS)?

Thanks to all who reply!!:D

Use a buffer if you have one or progressively finer grades of very fine sandpaper if you don't. It's impossible to use your knife and keep the original finish on your blade.

Thanks for your reply. What "compound"?

This knife is NIB and before I b*tched to the seller, I wanted to see if I could get them out. There are two scratches parallel to each other. Slight, but noticeable.

Go ahead and contact the seller if it bothers you. If the blade is scratched, it isn't new in box.

Personally, I'd just use it. That is why Sal makes them, to be used. Those scratches will have plenty of company in short order.

Doesn't bother me that much. I know there is a way to get scratches out. I just want to make sure I do it right on a AUS-8 blade.

Then....When I get it just the way I want it(nothing in this world is perfect)....I can use the "blank" out of it....and start all over again!:D

I'll probably just give the seller a "heads up". No biggie on my end. I still plan on doing business with them. I will reserve "that" conversation for "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly" forum. If need arises.

Still looking for more "experiences"!!
Thanks again to all who reply!!:D

Good Day All-

Flitz Metal Polish...Which works best on light blade scratches...Liquid or paste.

Thanks and have a great day!:D

Unless you really know what you're doing (and from your questions it's pretty clear you don't, so asking was a good idea) you REALLY do not want to touch this with anything powered, bench-mounted or hand-held. Use an old T-shirt and some Flitz or Simichrome polish.

Thanks...You're right...I don't. But...I'm willing to try and learn from all you good people. Perhaps learn from all the mistakes made in the past and not repeat them myself. I'm not real familiar with different blade steels....Not an expert sharpener. Just trying to have some fun with this new Spydie "Bug", I seem to have caught.:D

I picked up some Flitz today and wasn't too impressed. My usual supplier(Army/Navy Store) where I purchase Simichrome is out-of-stock. I have some on the way.

As far as using anything "powered, bench-mounted or hand-held" ...Practice makes "perfect"...No worries...I have a few older blades to practice on.:D

I've found a few excellent "sharpening threads"!!
All "Care"...Experiences....Good and/or Bad....Welcome!
