screw loose on xm-18

Pinch it between your fingers, and spin it as best you can. The two screws should move independently, if it's loose like that. It'll get it tighter, though not fully. Thin rubber gloves may give a better purchase. Anyway, that should tide you over until you can get the right tool.

I would be inclined to worry if it were in a fixed, open position - this might suggest cross-threading during assembly, but that's just about impossible on the knives leaving Rick's shop.

Hope this helps!

You need to send the knife back to Rick for repair.

I have had this happen to my XMs when changing scales, I use use an Allen wrench to loosen the screws, I send it back to Rick so he can tighten the screws for me, serious business having no common sense.

yeah. wouldnt want any of that! common sense is hard to find these days! pff..

Looks like your Hinderer is broken. You can send it to me to be disposed of.

All kidding aside, best I can say is... you gotta learn sometime? You guys have to think that some people genuinely don't know that you can sharpen a knife, or make an edge for a specific task (toothy for fiber cutting, etc.). Not everybody is a knife guru.

I wonder how many of the people that have read this thread have gone to examine the screws of their Hinderers...

i feel like the suspect of a crime that i never did. you know... it was just an observation and all of a sudden, people started to put me down and call me some sort of a dumbass(in their own words.) could you think of anyone who isnt knowledgeable about knives who would be willing to spend upwards of 800 dollars for a knife? i couldn't. i know how to tighten a freaking screw. i'm not here to test my knowledge with you guys, cause it would be pointless.
i just looked down, heard it clicking, examined it and thought "this isnt right... these screws shouldnt just loosen up like that" and i posted it. simple as that.

if theres a mod out there, please delete this thread. im sick of this.

I think I got the point of your original post. I don't know why everyone went all insult comic over it.

It's a loose screw, tighten it up, move on.

To create a thread over a loose scale screw is a joke and invalidly knocking a damned fine product.

If a genuine issue surfaces, sure post about if you must and the members will help out but this thread is a joke.

Post a ridiculous thread, expect to be ridiculed.

Buy a screw driver with the correct hex bit, tighten the screw up and enjoy the knife.

Surely it was obvious what needed to be done?

Don't lose faith,
Not all are annoyed. But I will add that it's threads like this one that make me cautious of posting certain questions or observations myself.
Cheers

I think the gentleman, or woman was just making a observation, he wanted to know if anyone else had a similar problem.

No harm no foul, let us know how it's going.

5/64ths allen wrench. Less than $1.00 at ACE Hardware.

Did you seriously just make a thread about a screw coming loose on a knife? Send it to me and I will tighten it for you young lady.

 You assume he's a woman just because he doesn't have allen wrenches?

I don't know why people get all bent out of shape over new threads, as if it's insulting their intelligence. If you don't like the topic, or you think it's trivial, then don't post. Move on. Or when a newcomer posts a common question and everyone jumps down his/her throat for not using the search function. I'm sure you all have more important things in your life to worry about.

It was a silly question, I'll admit, it gave me a laugh. But it's no biggy. Imaccf90, it doesn't hurt to be a little more hands on with your knives. Taking them apart, and cleaning/re-lubing them, and reassembling them is part of the fun in my opinion. I hold ease of maintenance in high esteem when it comes to folding knives.

i'm not a newcomer. my account is older than yours and triviamonsters combined. i just dont post a lot. i mainly just made this account for trading(even though nobody gave me any feedback after 5 or 6 trades.) it was a simple observation. i know what the logical thing to do is. i just took the pictures, posted it and went to sears and got some cheap set and even tightened it up in the store. for some reason i always lose my allen wrenches.. the xm-18 always gets lots of pocket lint in it, so i do clean it regularly, but i dont take it apart to clean it. no need.
anyway.. thanks for at least trying to understand.

I didn't mean to imply that you were a newcomer. No one who is new to folding knives will start out with a Hinderer. It was a general statement describing what often happens with new members who ask common questions.

......... for some reason i always lose my allen wrenches.. ......

You might try getting an extra 5/64ths and putting it in your Hinderer box. Allen wrenches are bad about growing legs and getting dropped and pushed up under things.

Looks like a good reason to invest in an armourers tool.

When they are back in stock that is.
