Screw Tension vs. Blade Stiffness.

Yea Medic, my blade was still stiff even when I had the lock open.

I'm pretty relaxed about polishing the washer. I wanted to make sure that the imprint of the pivot hadn't left a slight bulge or burr on the opposite side of the washer. That's why I used my fine ceramic stone, it's absolutely flat and does't cut hardly any metal. If it causes me problems later I'll send it in and have them replace it. Fortunately replacing the washer won't be NEARLY as expensive as replacing the lock side handle slab.

lunumbra...good job. The Sebenza is made so that if everything is set right it will be smooth as silk. So...if the blade is seriously tight, then you have pinched a washer.

It took me several frustrating tries to get my large classic back together the first time. Everytime I thought I had it, the blade was hard to open. I kept saying "this just isn't right." So I would try again. Finally...yes, you just know when it' right. The blade is smooth and will fall a little when you unlock it. Enjoy.

My problem with stiffness comes when the blade is locked in the open position. No matter how hard I wiggle the blade, or in which direction, I can not get it to move. Is this normal?

I think that's just the legendary lock-up that Sebenzas are known for and the reason we buy these things! :D

I broke the lock-bar on another frame-lock by bending the lock-bar. Apparently there is a right way and a wrong way. Mine was the wrong way, I didn't heat the titanium, it developed a crack in it and broke off. It was an expensive fix guys and I learned my lesson the hard way. I'm glad to see you guys ironed this one out long before I got here. Whew! I know how sick I felt when I broke that knife and wouldn't want anyone else to go through that. There is a reason it should be sent back to the maker if the lock needs to be tweaked. Consider me cured of thinking I know anything about knifemaking. I'll gladly pay for shipping and the price of any fixes on my knives from now on. BTW, I had the same problem with my large Sebenza and sold it before I found out what I had done wrong (pinching the washer after reassembly). This is the place to get all your answers.
Be well,

Leo G.

By the way.......
If there ever becomes something called a "Lunumbra Thread", I want one of you hacker types, (there has to be a least one of you out there) to track down my address and give to one of the gun nuts. (I KNOW there are a couple of them around!)

Knock knock.......(door opens)
"Lunumbra?"
"uh....yea..."
BANG! thud.......

I swear to god;) :D
