Hopefully there is enough knife-loving people in FL that Bush will win and we won't have to look at @#$%ing Gore's face ever again. GO BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I am hearing is that aside from (or in addition to) the scheduled recount there are some 30,000 absentee ballots coming into Florida from overseas, These ballots need to be postmarked by today, but may not arrive in Florida for some time.

The assumption is that most of these are from personnel in the armed services, and will go mostly to Bush.

If you take away the votes gained through blatant voter fraud in Wisconson, California, and the Penn state, Bush wins.

It sickens me that we allow this to happen, and remain for the most part silent.

I pray that Bush wins Florida, i think after the absentee votes are counted he will. However, absentee ballots are easy to corrupt and the Democrats are very good at buying votes, or at a minimum trading them for cigarretes.

Since this is the general KNIFE discussion forum, I just thought I would express my hope that whoever gets elected can cut the mustard, as well as the cheese. Neither one of these two guys impresses me as being particularly sharp, both having some dull spots that could use a little honing. I have no idea whose metal is better, but I hope they have the proper temper to bend a little instead of breaking. A clean cut is always better than watching the cookie crumble.

I say we throw these two antagonists into a ring and let them fight to the death using their favorite weapons. Gore would probably try to talk Bush to death, and Bush would simply shoot him.

As stated earlier by others, it looks like I was premature with my celebrations.

I was up until 4 AM this morning and have had my stomach tied in knots! Already, I've met 3 people who either failed to vot or voted Libertarian, and with a margin swinging from 1700 votes to less than 600, I'm beyond tense.

Cross your fingers, folks.

These is an implicit assumption here that if you like knives, you're a Bush supporter. I like knives and I believe that Bush can barely walk and chew gum at the same time.

To correct an earlier misstatement by one of our political "experts", the South Florida Cubans have been anti-Democrat since the Bay of Pigs fiasco nearly 40 years ago. This is not a recent phenomenon.

In any case, buckle your seat belts, looks like an interesting ride ahead.

I agree, JerseyJer. It seems most people here overwhelmingly support Bush due to his connections with the NRA and more conservative tendencies favoring gun/weapon legislation.

However, I am one of the few (apparently) here that concentrate on the larger issues. And trust me, these are much larger. I do not favor Bush, since he has repeatedly proven his lack of knowledge with his constant gaffes about many issues and foreign policy. I'd rather have a more knowledgeable president than one who clearly lacks any degree of expertise on many issues and relies mostly on brilliant advisers' opinion to tell him the state of things.

If this proves anything, is that the electoral count system of voting is completely irrelevant in this day and age. People should vote directly. The candidate's picking and choosing states is inevitable, due to the overwhelming population some of the states have in comparison to others. But the symbolism represented by the electoral vote only points to an anachronistic system whereby people were not completely trusted with their direct vote for the Presidency.

Also, huge campaign contributions from lobbying interests should be abolished. Both candidates have at one time or another supported the continuation of this process. Bush is a direct beneficiary of this, and Gore has had a horrible record in supporting the elimination of private interests. This represents a huge defeat for democracy, in my opinion. These issues are never heard with sufficient attention due to the fact that legislators have much to lose in personal and political wealth.

Still, I'm from Puerto Rico and can't vote. That's a whole other long story. All I can say is, whoever comes up President is important for the future political status of my country, so I follow this election with much interest.

Good luck to all of you!

Count me among the Florida knife nuts who voted for Gore. I often get annoyed at the assumption here on this forum that we're ALL right-wingers for Bush and Charlton Heston. But I keep my mouth shut because this is a KNIFE forum and, despite my disagreement with many of you politically, it's a pretty great cyber place to hang out. I'm comfortable with opposing viewpoints. Are you? The point is that - believe it or not - there are good people who are knife nuts on both sides of the fence.
Incidentally, the gentleman who gloated earlier about the Florida Cuban vote going over to Bush couldn't be more wrong. They did vote Bush but that's nothing new. For decades the Miami Cubans have been some of the staunchest Republican voters in the country. ("As preseedent, Boosh will keel Castro!")

Oh well, I needed to cut my fingernails anyway. Maybe not quite this short.

I gotta tell ya', it was a rollercoaster ride at the GOP party here last night. I finally gave up at about 12:45 when they announced that Gore would not conceed.

While everyone is rightfully focused on Florida, Oregon is still out too. And we've got a lot of measures that are still way to close to call.

All I can say is: Think W!

Oh, and Spark, I'll e-mail you those building plans you asked for...

I would like to take this opportunity to say that I voted for Gore.

It was not something I took a great deal of pleasure in, but I thought it was the right thing to do. It sure looks like everyone else had a hard time making up their minds as well (I know it was not difficult for some of you). Now we have half the country hanging over one side of the razor's edge, and the other half on the other side. Can we remain balanced like this? Or will the thin thread that binds all of us together be Cut?

Let the impeachment begin!

As an old history major, I am looking for the election to go to the House of Representatives. That would, of course, assure a Republican victory, and I voted for Gore, but I really would like to watch, close up, that kind of an historical event. It has happened, what, two times in our history: 1876 and 1888?

And, yes, I did vote for Gore largely for the reason discussed so often in the Political Forum, the Right to Reproductive Choice for the women that I love, as well as for the women of the nation at large.

thank you, Paracelsus. I voted for Gore too. And to all you folks who're sounding very much like you think Bush is your messiah, might as well enjoy yourselves now. I don't think you will later. We shall you see how far those Bush 9-to-5 workdays with 2-hour-lunch breaks go in running the country when things get complicated.
I'm reminded of the time Nixon as president nominated some completely forgettable and unqualified but ideologically compatible mediocrity to the Supreme Court. I forget the name; the Senate soundly rejected him. But before they did, his most passionate defender, the ancient Sen. Roman Hruska of Neb., rose to make the argument that the mediocre people of the nation deserve somebody like them in charge for once.

Well, I guess I finally know of some people who voted for Gore, as they admitted in this thread
smile.gif
Anyways, everybody should vote how they feel is right, so no, I dont have any problems with opposing views.

I myself hope Bush wins. I can only speak for me, but the gun/knife issue is important to me, but that is only one issue. I tend to be conservative about most things, and support Bush for more than just the one issue.

I wont get in to what I think of Gore, suffice it to say, I hope we have seen his final days in DC.

GO BUSH!!!!

UPDATED and REVISED

Bush very well may win the electoral vote and get to play president just like "daddy and uncle Ronnie." For now though, let me just point out that Al Gore has clinched the popular vote. More Americans have voted for Al Gore than George W. Bush. For what it's worth (which admittedly ain't much): HA HA!

Considering that Gore was an incumbant VP, during peace and prosperity, the sheer fact that it was this close should tell you something major - people just don't like Al Gore.

He had every advantage coming into this election - biased media, more money, better organization, lots of dirty tricks, etc, and still *if* he wins it will be a squeaker. Decisive victory it isn't.

It's too tight to tell right now and with the latest press release from Fl. saying that votes won't be declared until 5:00 PM tomorrow, I'm going to close this thread and redirect everything to the Political Forum - my announcment has been rendered moot.
