Screw together slipjoints

Thanks for the pic! Nice...
I prefer the traditional Soddie blade though.
I asked a maker to make a Sodbuster using a Strider-like pivot screw. How cool would that be?

Well, for me it does not matter if the knife is considered traditional or not. I thought it was because I had recently seen the thread above (thanks for the link, ellipticus) and thought that the traditional forum was best because I am looking for knives with traditional lines. What the mods decide is fine by me and, regardless of the subforum, I'm happy to be able to use your collective knowledge to find what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the pic of the Shing, avoidspam. Unfortunately, his Web site is down.

I love traditionals with the one flaw of a pinned pivot. A screw pivot on an otherwise traditional knife would be (is) sweet.

I have a Sanrenmu 605 I've been sizing up to remove the pocket clip and thumb stud. I could replace the thumb stud with something which bulges on both sides for two hand opening. It'd be a nice watch pocket knife.

I totally agree , the ability to adjust , dismantle and replace parts if damage occurs is a great feature of any knife .
Improvement to design is just normal evolution . The Traditional's that we know now , were once modern , advanced , and pushing the limits of design and taste .
Don't get me wrong , I love , use and own Traditional slip joints , but in my opinion an advancement and loosening of ideas is required over on the Traditional forum to find a home for the " modern Traditional's " . A place where they belong is required , because at the moment they are in " no mans land " . They are far closer in design and ethos to Traditional than to anything else , but the Traditional forum just slams the door in their face , and pretends that their nearest relation doesn't exist .
Could there not be a sub- forum over there for Modern-Traditionals ?

Ken

Edit - just realised that there is actually a thread about " Modern Traditionals " , so I take back some of what I said .

I take a walk around my block when I get up at 4 AM to stretch out a bad back. I've been stopped by the police 3 times in 15-20 years. The first time it irked me, then I realized that it was good that they were watching the neighborhood I lived in.

Twice was politely, once was not, another story.

The mods in Traditional can be zealous, but it's a very nice forum, unusual on the internet. It's worth it.

I do agree on the screwed pivot though.

The rules in the traditional forum are caparicious and illogical. Many custom makers of traditional knives use screw construction. The topic was discussed, in the past, on the subforum, Don hanson said he does it in case the fancy natural handle materials (e.g. Mammoth) need replacement.

This is a a Shing Raven. It was hand-made to order. It has a 75 mm random pattern Damasteel blade (made of RWL 34 and 12C27, hardened to approx RC 62 with a cryo quench), 440C stainless spring, stainless liners & bolsters, black G10 handles with red liners. It has a convex edge which has been stropped to a mirror finish. The edge is by Longstrider from the British Blades forum.
