Screwed up threads

I am making a through tang knife of AEBL/304 SS. I was trying to thread the back end while it was annealed, and it started to bend. So I backed off and thought I could thread it after HT. Now I can't touch it with my threader, and it might be too small for the nut I had in mind in either case. I was hoping to do a handle of a mix of wood and antler, with a brass or NiSi butt plate.

Questions:

Is there another was to compress the handle package and lock it tight? (it does not need to be removable)

Can brass or NiSi be welded to the SS tang?

Any other ideas appreciated.

Try a 12" squeeze clamp from Harbor freight with a slot cut for blade clearence on one end. Works but be carefull everything is seated and doesn't shift when clamped.

You can hard solder a bolt of the proper size to the tang.
You can also dovetail the bolt into the tang.

Too late to dovetail a bolt into the tang, I think, since it has gone through HT. Or could I anneal only the end of the tang without screwing up the rest?

phil, i just sent you a pm. i can explain a few different options to you over the phone.
