CactusRose got a new customer this week which is always nice, but just as nice - if not even better - were the pictures of this scrimshaw work he shared. These pieces are Old West in motif - he also does other styles and will be sending me samples.
The artist is Dr. Peter Jensen of Germany - he can be contacted at: p.jensen@surfeu.de
I am sure glad he shared his work and with his permission ya'll get to see it too - ENJOY!!!!

Stunning work, the man is very talented.Fantastic details.I wonder how much time it would take to do one. Thanks for the look.

Hello Stumpy,
I have made these scrimshaws.
It takes very very much time!
I`m doing only high quality work at a magnification up to twenty power
with stereo microscope -this takes time.
A very fine colour scrimshaw needs approximately four time working hours
than a monochrome one.
So I need from 120 hours up to 800 hours for a colour scrimshaw!

Incredible workmanship, you are truly an artist. I've not seen work like this since Rick Fields passed away.

It's like he wrapped a picture from a magazine around the handle. Simply amazing, HPJscrimshaw.

Thanks for the answer on the time Peter.I can't imagine the patience needed to finish one of your works. You are a true artist.

/QUOTE]You are right Win!
I started scrimshawing 1999 when I saw in Jim Weyer`s Knive books
Rick Fields scrimshaw pictures(I`ve never seen one in reality)-I was
fascinated! Then I got Bob Engnath`s "second scrimshaw connection"
and began to work.
So I have really american roots.

Thank you all for the very good assessment of my work.
I have sent some more scrimshaw-photos to Chuck.
Maybe he will them show you.

Thank you,
Peter aka HPJscrimshaw

You are all so nice to me, -- thank you.
If anyone has questions about scrimshaw-techniques,
I will answer each question "how to do".
You have only to excuse my funny english.I`ve learned it
at highschool 50 years ago and never really used it till yet.
I have also some problems with idiomatics and no experience
with internet-forum.
So the answers will need time and a big dictionary.

Peter

Sure glad I was able to share Peter's work with everyone and with that said - you ain't seen nothing yet! ;)
In order to keep these threads loading at a decent rate for those of us still on dial-up I decided to show off more of Peter's fantastic work in a second post: (note some adult content included) - Just follow the link to see the next installment......
Scrimshaw - Sharing Part 2 - not for the faint of heart
