Scrimshaw'd Mnandi........the scrimshaw is NSFW

That is amazing, I was lucky enough to buy a nice ivory Minandi back in 2006 when they were cheaper and I might just have to look up your artist. As someone with no drawing skills that kind of talent just astounds me.

How has this thread gone on for 26 posts and no ones said it? That knife gives new meaning to term knife porn!

Wow, I think I just decided on my grail knife.

I'm constantly assessing whether or not my grandfather would approve of a knife I own or plan on owning. And without a doubt he would approve of a beautiful gentlemans folder with a scrimshawed nude babe on it.

Thanks for the kind words. :)

Unfortunately, as I understand it, scrimshaw doesn't make the best user as it can wear off with use. It's one of my few safe queens.

I had asked Ron to send me some pics of him making the knife, he got me a few.

The original sale picture:

Prepping it:

The feet:

A bit more:

And that unfortunately was all he sent. Cool stuff though. :)

I really prefer pin-up to nudes on knives and guns, but the artist is amazing! Please share who it is by as I'd love to have some ivory grips done!

It's Ron Luebke. Nice guy.

The knife and artwork is absolutely stunning! Would love to add a piece like this to my collection but I would have a hard time not using it. About the only rule I have when it comes to my knife collection is that it has to see pocket time every now and then. Thank you for following through with making your grail a reality and sharing it with all of us!

Does anyone know the durability of such a graphic....??? I cant see this being a normal EDC as I think it would wear eventually, but even carrying it in the CRK slip sheath, would that be abrasive enough to wear the graphic.....??? Or is this basically Safe Queen material...? Just some thoughts is all....!!!

I asked the Scrimshander if there were any special things I had to do to take care of it. He said: "You should wax the surface of any ivory once a year or so scrimshaw on it or no. I only recommend Renaissance wax, is a little expensive but will last you 2 lifetimes and I bet you'll find other uses for it. No direct sunlight no cleaning with water, alcohol, soap etc. The Renaissance wax actually does a pretty good job of cleaning the ivory all by itself. That's about it, scrimshaw is not that fragile and can be handled without worry you just don't want to go rubbing the surface a whole lot."

So, maybe? I heard from another knife maker I was looking at to never use scrimshaw, that the oils in your hand will wear it off.
