Scrounging and Trading

Charlie I really enjoy your post you always have such interesting knives and things to share.

Say Charlie, know anything about that awl? I've got two from my great grandfather, but both were painted blue not stained. I know they're stanley but never saw any writing (too worn?).
Anyhow one of them I sharpened up, sanded clean, and applied furniture wax to finish the handle. It looks beautiful. The other I havent gotten to touching up. Just wondering what you may know.

I'll get a picture, the grain and hue is beautiful. I fondle and look at it more than use it!

What a beautiful haul! I especially like the rope knife, I love the manicure blade, certainly a useful tool to have on you, I hope to find a similar one someday! Those advertising knives are very nice as well, I've always found them fascinating, what a great way to get your name out there, a company would sure get my attention if they gave me a nice knife!

Does the Rodgers' box mean stainless was in use prior to King Edward's death?

I suppose not since stainless was not in use until the 19teens,and the monarch died in 1910.

Must only be Rodgers advertising their status.

Lyle Interesting point, but why do you think it's Edward VII? The British always have a line of kings (to quote Macbeth...) after him was George V 1910-36, Edward VIII 1936-37 and George VI 1937-52...However, the word 'Stainless' looks like it's been written on by hand in ink at a later stage so it could just be the result of putting a stainless knife in that box. I could be way off though....

Will, the T.Turner is indeed a single spring knife!

Lyle and Will, there is a small end label on the JR Box, which I added to the OP.
I also added another knife, which had been misplaced, and now found.

Mostly due to my ignorance of the Monarchs,my gardening friend.I assumed the chronology.Haste makes .....

It seems more likely to be a box during the reign of one of the Kings you listed.

Great looking edge tools you rounded up Chalrie.
Still haven't had the chance to make my way to the coast and partipate with you gents. Better late then never I guess ;)
