Hello all! First off, let me just say that I am new to this site and I think it is awesome. There is definately some valuable info in here! A friend turned me on to it. But I digress...

When grinding the micarta to get your pattern on it, it seems to me that there would be uneven spots. Is part of finishing micarta include a "top coat" of epoxy to even it all out?

Thanks again!

Comercial grade micarta (the good stuff) should get shinny by itself if you polish it well enough going first through all the grits from 220 to 1500 for example and then buffing it. The home made stuff is a bit more trickier and if you want a glossy finish you are better off coating it (once contoured and polished the best you can) with some cyanoacrilate (and ligthly sanding and buffing again). I am no expert, so do your homework searching (googling) the forum or wait untill someone else chimes in and gives you a better explanation of this method.
