SDS Camo Campknife Review

Brett, thank you for the great review. Keep using those knives and let me know how they are working out in the long term too. I'm always interested in feedback, good and bad. I need to know what people like as well as what they don't so I can keep improving.

Thanks to everyone else for the comments as well. I have found myself spending more and more time in the W&S forum reading about what you are all doing. Before kids I used to spend a LOT more time outdoors. When they get a little older I hope to get back out with them more.

I'll try to answer some of the questions I saw while reading through this thread.

KGD, you were asking about the camo stripes. They are not applied as a coating. Brett was right when he said they are etched on. They are electro chemically etched onto the surface. It is the same method as is used to apply a makers mark. This should wear very well and won't rub off with use.

MRpink, the tapered tang serves a couple of different purposes. It helps to reduce overall weight as well as adjust the balance of the knife. I also think that it is a little more aesthetically pleasing to have some variation in the handle vs. just a flat tang. Flat tangs (not tapered) do have their place however.

Lazerboy2000, about a website. At this point in my knifemaking I am just doing this part time. I have a full time job and I have two small children. Most of my knifemaking is done after the kids go to bed at night. I usually get to bed between midnight and one o'clock. Then my shift starts again at 7:00am. I intend to spend the next few years concentrating on improving my design and construction before I retire from my full time job. I said all of that to say that I've been hesitant to create a website for fear that I wouldn't be able to respond to requests for knives in a timely manner.

Brett has made some suggestions in reference to a website as well and I'm considering it. It would probably be pretty simple since I'm not very computer literate when it comes to such things.

Thanks again for the comments and if anyone has a specific question feel free to either pm me here in the forum or e-mail me directly at SDSknifeworks@sbcglobal.net.

Brett,
Awesome job as always! Shawn, that is a beautiful-looking knife!

MW, click on SDS's name in his profile, dude. That's the link....;)

WOW, in the video you did a ninja knife throw! Good thing it didn't bounce and become a boomerang!
yeah, you have to throw it pretty hard to get it to stick usually. this knife was so hefty that it just stuck with no problem.

of course, I practiced before shooting the video...:)
