my personality is such that, when i start liking something, i never want to change it. I live in a box one might say but hey i stay on that deans list in college with it and it makes me money too so this thread is about your favorite blade types and why. My first Spydie was a plain edge (PE) endura 4 and i loved it so much that i only bought plain edges for a while. Then two days ago a Combo Edge Ocelot and a fully serrated clip it H1 cought my eye in the store and now i find myself in a delima every morning as to which i should put in my pocket. Does any body find trouble with one blade over the other or do you like a certain one more than others. I know a lot of it depends on usage but I am the average knife lover that uses a knife for nothing more than the average chores in a day (yard work, cutting open packages, opening stuff in plastic, etc)

I carry both since I love them both and have uses for both styles. I carry 2 Endura 4's one PE and one SE.

I used to always think that combined was the best. But I really have no use for a serrated edge, so I go to PE anymore. I think I have actually given away every SE or combo edge blade that I have ever owned, and now I strictly have PE blades. Just my preference.

Plain edge is my favorite. I used to buy CE, but not anymore. I would buy a full SE though.

I've always bought plain edge, just never felt the need to have a combo. I have been looking into buy a full serrated as well though.

I used to only buy combo edge (first endura4 was combo) but found myself using the straight part 98% of the time. Recently I've bought more PEs

I prefer PE, but usually carry an SE as well; in case I run into a job that calls for it. My favorite SE is the E4 Wave. It (along with the D4 Wave) has a unique serration pattern that cuts more like a PE, and doesn't snag.

I've tried CE, but it just doesn't work well for me.

Aside from a bread knife, it's plain edge all the way for me. It cuts all the things I need to cut as well or better than serrated. It allows me to "press cut" without winding up with puncture wounds in my thumb. It can be sharpened using the tools which 55 years of use have made me familiar with. Finally, it's more pleasing to my eye, and, on those occasions where I give a rat's rosy rump, less likely to intimidate those who are easily intimidated.

I buy either plain edge or full serated.combo edge is a pain to sharpen and I think they look goofy.Full serated for sd and heavy cutting.plain edge for slicing and percise cutting. The reason I say serated for sd is because it will cut through clothing like butter, while plain edge will work in the same matter but will not cut as deep and if it's not razor sharp it will just slide off.If you are using a knife against someone with a heavy coat on only serated a hawkbilled plain edges will get through.

sorry a little of topic:o

cheers gine.

i prefer combo edge, because its got plenty of both worlds.
unfortunately spyderco does not make as many combo edges as I wish they would..:(

they really do ive carried that clip it salt 1 for the past few days and it is fully serrtaed but i luv the damn thing ...ive never carried one before and i am having a hard time putting this one down... i might flip the pocket clip on it and carry it in my left pocket and then carry my endura in my right one because i use both equally right now

Full SpyderEdge all the way:thumbup::thumbup:

Cuts better faster and longer between sharpening.

Faster to sharpen on the sharpmaker(only need the first step)

And I just loooove the look of a fully serrated blade:thumbup:;)

I buy plain edge knives only. Once I bought a combo edged SS Native and although I love looking at it, I have found no use for it. Yes, I am a PE snob.

I use to be totally PE and for the most part most of my knives are PE. These days I carry a pair of P3's one SE and one PE. The SE has been doing most of my cutting. One I think was to work more with a SE and I am able to keep the plain edge razor sharp for special purposes.

These two are carried mainly for LEO duty. Take care all and God Bless!;)

Actually I like everyone of Spyderco's edge variants. And I will admit up front that until I got into Spyderco knives I didn't have much use for fully serrated blades with the exception of my kitchen knives.

But Spyderco's Spyderedge serrated blades are in a league at the top and so far ahead of any other knife company's serrated blades I really don't think there is even a close second. I do like 2 of Benchmade's serrations patterns but they are much harder to sharpen than Spyderco's Spyderedge.

I use at least one Spyderco PE blade daily and here lately I've been carrying my Spyderco G-10 handled "Harpy" model for a lot of my serrated cutting jobs. My Spyderco SE blades work like a charm in removing some troublesome plastic/polymer material when working on automotive electric cable harnesses.

When it comes to Spyderco's combo edged blades I have nothing but good to say about them as well. I EDCed a Spyderco Renegade model for a little over a year and it was a sterling, all purpose work knife. I traded that knife away and I truly wish that I had it back.

All in all I find that there are valid uses for all of Spyderco's edge varities and I challenge anyone to carry one of their serrated blades for at least a week. That's how I discovered just how useful their Spyderedge blades are. It really urks me that so many knife users blast and ridicule serrated blades and when you talk to them they admit that they've never even tried to use one before :(
