For Sale Seacow - 1095 Edge Quenched; Ancient Stellars Sea Cow Rib; Ironwood with File Worked Spine
OAL 7 5/8"; Blade 3 3/8"
Bolster/Hardware: Bright Brass Bolster, Spacer, Pins and Thong tube
File Work: Vine and Thorn Pattern entire spine
Handle: 260+ Year old Stellars Sea Cow rib bone stabilized; Beautiful DARK Desert Ironwood Burl with Gold and Orange Figure.
History Note For Fun: According to my supplier in Alaska, Stellar's Sea Cow bones which normally wash up on the beaches of St. Lawrence Island are getting rarer and rarer and thus more valuable (expensive). The Steller's sea cow is an extinct, manatee like mammal (although they were considerably larger than present day manatees) formerly found near the Asiatic coast of the Bering Sea . The animal was first discovered in the Commander Islands in 1741 by German naturalist Georg Steller, while traveling with the explorer Vitus Bering. A small population lived in the Arctic waters around Bering Island and nearby Copper Island. Due to over hunting for food and oil for lanterns by seafarers, Steller's sea cows were extinct by 1768, only 27 years after they had been discovered. Here's a chance to own a piece of history.
