I've been thinking about purchasing the Seal Pup Elite straight edge black TiNi E37S. Just wanting some opinions from those with one of the Seal Pup Elites. Likes, dislikes. Which sheath you like better kydex, or nylon. Thank you for your time and opinions.

I bought the non-serrated E37-N version with the nylon sheath few weeks ago and I'm more impressed with the knife than I expected. I wanted the sheath with a pocket so that I could store a "Light My Fire" Firesteel BUT if you not need/want the extra storage space I would buy the one with the Kydex sheath.
Good luck.

I got m ine with the nylon sheath, and im very impressed. The knife is much better than I expected, im very happy with it. I say pull the trigger on it.

Bought my son the straight edge version a couple of years ago as a hiking knife. It's a great little knife. Nice and light. Came shaving sharp. Perfect for what I bought it for. Would also be my first choice for rafting and such excursions in or near the water.

Bought mine with the straight edge and kydex. I ended up paying $20 extra later for the nylon. I thought the kydex would be tacti-cool, but the nylon is so much lighter and more functional in many ways. Every person that picks this knife up comments on how scarey sharp it is, even after my meager knife sharpening abilities. You won't be disappointed!

As for the TiNi, I have no experience with it. I always prefered a non-blackened blade. I'd say it mainly depends on how subdued you need your blade to be. I would never carry this knife in a non-rural area, since it's blade length is over my state's 4" limit. So that makes it a backpacking/camping/boating knife for me. In those scenarios I prefer to have an easy to see (and find) shiney blade - in the event that I dropped it.

Got 5 of them. Sorry SOG , the kydex sheath is the poorest factory sheath I've ever purchased. Zero retention on mine ; knife doesn't snap in at all , line cutter is useless and snags on brush , strap doesn't help matters much at all. Belt loop plate is too long and doesn't appear to be very strong.I don't see it lasting long myself.

The nylon/cordura sheath is actually very good overall and the pouch is handy for small items like a firesteel or multitool. The rear strap and loops give some versatile mounting options. Very toughly built , even more so than my Becker sheaths I have.

I prefer the straight edges and all my pups have been exemplary performers for all tasks I've put them through , both city and bush. Black tini is the toughest smooth coating I've used so far and looks even better with use marks as time goes on. Afraid of losing your knife? Get a orange lanyard .

Plain edge /Black Tini / nylon sheath/ is a great rig.Get it.

I have one I've been carrying since '05. I used tennis racket tape to give the handle more traction and I also used a belt sander to remove the rasp on the back of the knife. The cordura sheath with insert suits me the best as I carry upside down on the strap of my Kelty rucksack. Great knife.
Changes I would make: High flat grind instead of hollow ground and also Kraton handle instead of Zytel.

I have the plain edge one and have been very happy with it overall. I have both sheaths. Which one I use depends on what I am doing. For a more compact package, the kydex is better, but if you want to perhaps tote a fire steel or larger SAK, the nylon one wins hands down. If I had to get one, I'd go with the nylon sheath.

Does the the Seal PUP Elite click when inserted into Kydex sheath or is the strap the only thing keeping the knife from falling out if held upside down? I have the nylon sheath and use the front pouch for a fire steel but I would buy the Kydex if it's retention sans strap was better than the one I have. I have the non-coated plain edge blade......its a very handy little knife.

I just got my Seal Pup Elite today, I've had the normal Seal Pup for about 6 months and love it, I just decided to opt for a straight edge with a satin finish. So far I'm pleased with the nylon sheaths, might make a custom kydex sheath down the road.

The handle strap and a bit of friction from the plastic insert keep it in place. No snapping sound or effect.

I've been really wanting one and debating it for about 2 years now so I'm glad this thread was started. Its got a lot of the responses I figured I'd hear. The Seal Pup Elite was even listed as one of the tops 5 knives that are bought and used by soldiers. I like SOG stuff personally. With knives you get what you pay for and for what SOG stuff costs I feel like thats true and for some of the models they make you get more than what you paid for. My current EDC is a Flash II and I've owned an Agency with the TiNi, a Jungle primitive, and a Super Bowie and have yet to be disappointed with any of them. I say go for it, I know I will very soon.

Thank you for the information; I wondered if it clicked into place like the Tech Bowie does but apparently not....of course the Tech Bowie has a different type of hilt that makes it easier for the Kydex to wrap around it. The nylon sheath sheath works just fine and seems to be the one that is most often bundled with the one I wanted the non-coated, non-serrated blade. For $50 it makes for a very useful setup and though not the nicest SOG fixed blade I have its the one I probably use the most often. I really like the longer handle of the PUP Elite, wish the handle was thicker for a more comfortable grip BUT that would throw the proportions out of whack. Nice knife.

Thought I'd add this:
The newer regular Seal pups have the exact same handle as the Elite version , and the part of the unsharpened blade after the guard is now the same length ( ie;shorter) as the Elite as well.

Plus, it is made in Aus 8 , not Aus 6 as the older ones. There are still a lot of older ones floating around on dealers shelves still with the Aus 6 / larger unsharpened blade portion.

I have the standard seal-pup (not the elite), and I gotta say I love it. I carry it at work (military) on all field training exercises and it's never let me down. By no means is it the end all and be all of knives, but it functions extremely well as a $50 small fixed blade. I've cut everything under the sun from cargo straps to wood...even killed 3 rattlesnakes with it. I would recommend it to anyone. I cary a Gerber Diesel in the pouch, fits perfect, but i need to unbutton the knife to get the Diesel out.

Im looking to get a sog seal pup elite but im a new member and want to sell ot swap a knife for a sog how do i go about this?

Do it you won't regret it I love mine an I love the nylon sheath I weaved paracord on the back were the Molle is . I love it

If the handle length, choil length and steel are all the same...what is the difference between the two now other than name? I'll have to check the website on this. Interesting stuff.
