Tung is a good choice and thin it with mineral spirits, say 3 to 1 part Tung, for the first couple/three coats to get it in deep. Allow to cure for as long as your patience allows between coats (1 day minimum, 2 days is better). As the wood fills thin it less and continue to apply coats until the wood accepts no more. Tung oil requires a long drying period. Tung gives a rather low sheen or classic finish.
