Seals for IKBS

Does anyone here have any experience with sealing up the IKBS system? I read somewhere off site that they can be sealed but I have yet to find any other info on how to do it. Any help would be welcomed.

For those that may search the BF site for the answer I found it off site buried deep in an archived post. I believe Les Voorhies was the one that made the post. Basically the race is counter bored a little deeper so that a .010 -.015 washer can be placed over the 1/16ths bearing. There was not really a response on how well it worked or what the washer was made of and such. I am guessing here but mounting the knife in a vice with wooden block as is suggested on the IKBS site and working the blade back and forth would set the race in the washer and allow it to seat into the counter bore.

I looked for washers that may work but all of them would require me to machine them down to 5/16 ths with a 3/16th pivot ID.

Maybe Mr Voorhies can weigh in and set all this straight but its all I have thus far. Hope it helps anyone looking for how to seal an IKBS system.

This is an interesting idea. Keep this thread updated with anything else you discover.
I'm thinking that maybe the added friction of a seal would negate any reduction in friction gained by using bearings, but I dunno...

I wish I could help. :)

Once the 1/16th bearing make the race in the handle and the washer its the same as it would be against the blade as the pressure om the bearings has been relived and the washer sets in the counter bored hole sealing off the bearing. I dont know if they are using a nylon or a nylotron.

1Shot that is the IKBS system by itself but not with a seal to keep dirt and sand out.

If there is a cut race way of each side of the bearing , where does the seal go. I can't see that working. Now if you just recess the bearing totally on the blade side you can place a seal on ther other side. The blade will start to get very thick to handle this since you need a bearing on each side of the blade. Frank
