Search and Rescue

I carry both a SAK Rescue Tool and a Spyderco RESCUE ASSIST. Both have seen window breaking duty, wire mesh glass sawing and seatbelt / clothing removal. None have cut the patient, duse to user skill and great design.

I HIGHLY recomend the SPYDERCO RESCUE ASSIST.

1: A Mora 2000 or similar normal sheath knife.
2: Normal hospital scissors with blunt end, one of those bent ones for cutting bandages and such.
3: An autopunch, used to mark metal before drilling. Looks like a Sharpie pen in brass. You pressit against the glass. A spring is released and the glass shatters. About 5 bucks in a tool shop.
There you have it. Really cheap stuff that works and can be lost or left behind without tears :)

I just carry a pair of EMS shears issued by the department for most tasks on incidents out here in California. One pair in my EMS jacket, and one pair in my turnout bottoms. That way I'm never on a scene w/o a pair at arms length. I also carry a Spyderco G10 Endura, but have yet to need a knive on an actual emergency call in over 8 years of professional service! Carried a Leatherman for a few years on my belt, but stoped awhile back. Never needed to go to it....

Heres some "Old School" (S&W Rescue Tool) but still available here and there and has never let me down. The Glass breaker is the Whip!!!! Shaaaaters the stuff!!!

Babakanoosh45, that is the Smith and Wesson I was talking about. Everybody says they’ve got quality issues but it looks fine to me.

I've never had a problem with mine, but co-workers have. Most of the complaints I hear seem to be that the spring for the punch falls out and/or the blade becomes loose (opens too easily). I have had neither issue yet, but I don't abuse mine either (most of the lost springs in my Dept. seem to be a result of using the knife to clear the glass after breaking. They issue us kevlar gloves so we can clear it ourselves...).

Hey babakanoosh45 ever broken the glass with the car's antenna? Always good for a laugh when you see the new guy's face after that one :D

It's all in how you treat your equipment. I hear and see so many people bitchin about how they have no money and they are always so broke while I watch them wreck their gear because they are dumbasses!!! I have some gear that is older then dirt and well used but in great working condition, because I take care of it... Thats my two cents on the matter....

My vote goes to the Spyderco Assist in orange. Fits your criteria perfectly.

Check out the Camillus rescue heat. Strong as hell liner lock, assisted opener (ROBO POWER), lightweight zytel handles, strong prying / screwdriver tip, and a nice glassbreaker on the end. Curved shape to cut a pant leg open, with a curved belly for rip cuts and sharp as hell serrated teeth.

And only 20 bucks on this site (note: have never ordered from it, don't know it's reputation)

There's my vote.
