Something from the Kershaw/Emerson or Zero Tolerance/Emerson collaboration lineup?

Also, the Benchmade Adamas:

Blade is a little short at 3.82", but it's AO, black blade, with serrations.

The Adamas withstood 1,717 inch/pounds of downforce on the handle, before the Axis Lock failed! Maybe that's not important to a lot of people, but it sure inspires confidence.

Aw, dang. You said frame or liner lock.

Er, whups. :o

Thats okay, because now you have opened up a lot more possibilities. If you still want fast and in that size, check out something with a waved blade. You can get models from Southern Grind, Emerson, Spyderco, and ZT with those features (some may not have a coated blade option though). I would also recommend anything with the Axis-Lock (or Arc-Lock) in the size or shape you like. With practice the Axis is nearly as fast as any assisted knife and is much easier to close to boot. The button lock Hogue models are also fast and come in a variety of styles and colors. Lastly cold steel has many "tactical" models and the added bonus of coming out in upgraded materials this year.

Sorry, I missed the frame or liner-lock only. In that case it limits some of the above mentioned stuff.

I will second the wave feature if quick deploy is priority. That bad monkey from southern grind is a fine looking blade.

Appreciate your additional thoughts, but I have most of what you have covered in my collection now, that's why I'm being more specific. These are just things I want in my next knife.

No assist but the new Cold Steel Recon 1 with XHP steel and awesome black DLC coating will be very hard to beat. Cold Steel G10 on the Recon is some of the best out there. It's 4 inch and right at your weight limit. Tri-Ad lock is the strongest by a good margin.

Definitely putting on the to be had list, but would really like to satisfy this want ;)

Sounds like you need an Emerson. The Southern Grind Bad Monkey is an awesome blade. Inspired by Emerson and has a licensed wave... It can be had with a black blade and with a combo edge...

Here is mine

+1 on the Emersons.

Call me Old School (or Old's Cool) but I have been an Emerson fan for years and can readily attest to his knives functionality, durability and suitability for your mission profile.

Correct. It is not assisted opening. If you drag your knife across the corner of your pocket that little hook on the spine catches your pocket and opens the blade just on drawing your knife. If you dont want to "wave it open" then draw straight up out of the pocket. The thumbstuds are big enough to manipulate with gloves and the action is buttery smooth.

Im sure if you youtube the emerson wave you can find many examples of the wave in action.
