Wishing for: Cento 3, god willing a model 4. And definitely up for splurging on a yojimbo 2.

Needs: at least 3-3.75 inch blade and something that can take a good amount of abuse. (The wishlist is for nights where I want something not too aggressive, but unique)

Any thoughts/recommendations? Links on prices or leads in the right direction would be most appreciated

Hmmm... up for a "good amount of abuse" and new to Spyderco makes me think PM2, Military, Manix 2 FFG, or even Manix 2 XL... if you're drawn to the Yojimbo 2, I say go for it (I sure want one).

But do you mean not to aggressive looking? I think the Yojimbo 2 is plenty scary looking for most non-knife sheeple, darn it... What about really splurging on a Domino or Southard?

I don't own any of the Centos because I just don't find the 3 or 4 as appealing as so many other Spydies. I do own the Yojimbo 2 and I think that it fits the description of what want. Some people, however, may feel that it looks very aggressive.

Not too aggressive looking, fair amount of abuse, 3.5" blade, awesome steel...you need a Gayle Bradley.

The Gayle Bradley is a good choice. If you prefer a stainless steel blade that can take abuse, consider a saber grind Endura in vg 10.

One of my daily carries is a Kershaw tremor, especially if I wear gloves. That kind of aggressive kinda gets the wrong attention sometimes....I wouldn't see why  NOW! To look for a manix2 or a nice PM2 although, I'd have to look into the Gayle Bradley I didn't even give it a try :D

think you just about described the gayle bradley to a tee!

the delica and endura are great at 3 and 4 inches. My first was an endura that has seen and survived horrible things. a PM2 is great, but like the endura won't be exactly non-threatening. maybe a sage 1 or 2. Sage 2 is my favorite, big enough to do anything, small enough not to trouble people.. IMO the Taiwan, Seki City, and US made knives (don't know about the byrd line first hand) are great, especially the Taiwan knives. Go through the designs and sizes to pick what you like in your budget. No matter what you choose, it will only be the first, not the last.
And while I only recommended knives I own, yeah the gayle bradley sounds perfect.

Good call on the GB, I have one, it's a real quality using knife that cuts even better than my ex mother in laws tongue.
Umm, you said "first Spyderco". You realize that one isn't enough then?

very simple , easy, never defeated ideal. knives are like women. ok to have 2-3 in your pocket, but which one you pulling out. It is impossible to answer this question, because you have 4 things nobody here has, your own hands and eyes, back to women, you go to shops, shows, and the one you see, and feel that is "your" girl, take her home, you can always trade her for 50% of the value, - fees and child support, (other knives)

All the responses here plus more would be good ideas for a first Spyderco but honestly, you can start out with the Endura/Delica and USE it for a few months and you should be well on your way. Don't overlook these, they are classics and bestsellers for 20+ years for a reason.

Ditto this post.

Endura, PM2, and I'll add the Embassy (auto) to the list.

Just curious but why do people want to abuse their knives??

It's not necessarily a "want" but sometimes is a "need". And when the need arises I'd rather have something that will withstand the abuse.
