Here are the requirements:

1) Blade must be less than 5".
2) No custom knives, production only.
3) Costs less than $200.00 MSRP.
4) It will not be used for self-defense.

What are your picks?

Thanks,
Allen.

Spyderco Temperance?

For just under $200.00, you could have a custom knife made.

What do you plan to do with the knife?

There are alot of TOPS knives out their, some benchmades, RATS, heck you can get Swamp rat bandicoot, theres options out the wazoo, but like already stated whatcha gonna do with it???

Allen,

There are many good sub 5" fixed blades. If you don't have a specific idea of what you plan to do with, look at the Fallkniven F1, it's one of the great knives of the category. For outdoor activities you won't be disappointed.

It will be used as an all-around utility knife, in the garage, in the yard, food preparation, camping, hiking, fishing, road-trips, etc...

It will not be used for self-defense and it will not be used for filleting fish or skinning animals.

No tantos or hawkbill or style blades, and single plain-edge only.

Beautiful appearance is a big plus, but it must be rather strong too.

Thanks again,
Allen.

Bark River Forager is a great choice.

CS Master Hunter

Swamp Rats any of theirs

Those would be my picks. I have a spyderco temperance in VG10 and have not used it but it looks like it could work well.

Plenty to choose from , I love my used CRK Mt , I bought her for $150 and sent her in for refurb at $35 including shipp and she came back perfect.;)

Another vote for Bark River here! They've got several models that might fit your needs, they are workhorses that look great, to boot.

You can also get one of the nicer looking Scandi knives, like the Helles Esav recommended, they are excellent knives.

Another Bark River vote. Just be careful because with the convex edge grind they have they are "sharp-sharp-sharp". A knife for the serious hunter or camper.

Bark River Fox River.
Bark River Clip Point Skinner - (nice knife even if you are not skinning)

Choose a nice handle and the blade will look fabulous.

Check out www.dlttradingcompany.com for some fabulous selection...

Benchmade Outbounder
Spyderco Temperance
Spyderco Moran - either blade style
Fallkniven F1
Cold Steel Master Hunter-Carbon V blade

Agree with Bark River. I'm especially fond of the Mountaineer that's an exclusive at AG Russell's for $114. DLT Trading, as mentioned above, has the best handle material selection. KnifeWorks has a good selection too, and very competitive prices. The Colonial Patch Knife or Northstar would be good general-utility blade shapes.

The Helle knives, also mentioned above, are very nice too. Made in Norway with local natural materials - bone, wood, stag, stone.

One of the most beautiful knives I own is the "Traditional Japanese Hunter" available from AG Russell. Made in Japan with Hitachi steel, cherrybark venner on the handle and sheath, and super-sharp.

How about Anza? They will make any of their standard models with the handle material of your choice, or design an entirely new knife. And, unlike other custom makers, they usually have the knife completed and shipped in under a week.

Too bad you are set against a custom. Don Hanson was selling a bunch of older customs on the forums for very low prices.

Another vote for the Benchmade Outbounder and the Spyderco Moran. They are both great knives. The cutting edge of the Moran is particularly fine; its sharpness possibly due to the VG-10 stainless.

Yup you cant go wrong with a BM Nimravus, it's a sweet little thing she is. But Dont forget about Swamp Rat's, Howling Rat super Tough knife.
