If you're set on a production knife (actually semi-custom) I would definitely go with Bark River. Great knives and you can't beat their customer service.
Before you totally rule out custom knives you ought to take a look at David Winston Knives. He makes some outstanding blades in D-2 at a great price.
(most knives between $140-$190 dollars. Sample below, 4-1/8" D-2, w/stabilized maple burl available for immediate delivery-$165.00 )
