Searching for a really good knife

Hey I'm a guy from belgium and I'm searching for a real tough knife. What do you guys think I should buy, it has to be a fixed blade. And I prefer "tactical" looks or "Army" looks.
I bought a Glock Knive a few weeks ago, and I can only say one thing! It's worthless! The S&W Police Boot knife I have was really good, but it needs a replacement to do the tough work.
I'm willing to pay 75 - 100 Euro! Can someone help me? I 'd really love your advise!
Tnx

Moving to Blade Discussion. You will get more action there.

You might want to check-out the Camillus/Becker BK-7 Combat Utility knife, or even the smaller BK-10 Crewman.

I second the Becker line. Very, very good value (a lot of knife for the money) and great design.

Good luck,s

and add Busse, Swamp Rat, Siegle and Greco to the list above. Those are my hard use knives. Oh yeah, get a trailmaster and have it rehandled by Jake Evans here on the forums, then you'd be set. But if you are like me, I have all the brands listed:eek:

I'll go with the Becker series. Ugly-ass knives, but they perform like knives twice the price. They are probably the best value fixed blades anywhere.

Another good choice may be Ka-Bar's various models. They have some in D-2 steel, which has a good blend of toughness, edge holding, and corrosion resistance (or so I hear).

75-100 Euro . . . I'd go for a Swamp Rat Knife Works blade. (SRKW is a subsidiary of Busse Combat.) Excellent knife for your money, and it should last a lifetime (and their write your own warranty policy ensures that it will, though I doubt any sane use of the knife will break it.) That SR101 is amazing stuff which I've grown to respect.

If you're willing to spend a bit more, I'd go for a knife from Busse proper. Those things are made out of INFI steel and are for all practical purposes indestructible. I was chopping a concrete block with mine the other day for a net result of zero damage--no exaggeration. I can't even scratch the canvas micarta handle, and I've been throwing it pretty hard.

Becker's are sturdy and affordable as are the present K-Bar's. Some people swear by the bargain Buck fixed blades like the Nighthawk and the old Buck Special. The Junglee Clip Points are jungle tested. The new Smith and Wesson Survival / Combat recurve looks impressive and sells for less than $60 US. I wouldn't leave out the Cold Steel triumvirate : the SRK, Recon Scout ( discontinued but still available in what Cold Steel calls "Second's... with flaws undetecable to the eye and in every way as sturdy as their "1st's".), and of course the gigantic Trail Master...oh, and the often overlooked but discontinued Cold Steel Bush model that can also be found as a second on Cold Steel's "Special Projects" web site. Then there are the stout Falknniven's in a variety of configurations; the good tactical performers: like the Gerber Yari, Timberline Zambezi, the Benchmade's, Cold Steel Tantos ( both stainless and carbon models ) and their tough old AUS8 steel combat knives (including the Outdoorsman brought back for an encore), Camillus (CUDA), Al Mar, Terzuola, and the proven SOG blades, TOPS...... and such.... the more expensive but beastly Swamp Rats,.... semi customs like Entrek and Greco's never fail. Those "Hummer-like" Busse's will outlive the "Great Wall" ! The top of this category are arguably those made by Dozier and Livesay. Then there are enough custom knife makers out there that would keep you busy trying to decide which one is best for you that the EURO will fold before you choose. Cruise the retail knife web sites, search out the consumer feedback on this forum....buy the one that appeals to you.....and then save for the next one!

Tnx for the replies. The only problem is that almost none of those knives are available in Belgium. And the US price is only half the price of the knif in Belgium! If it costs 80 Dollars in the US, it's $ 160 in Belgium! That kinda suxx I know! But if you guys say that the knifes are fine to use on survivals, hunting trips, army training, ... . I think it's worth the price. And I might pay over 100 Euro! But the only problem still stays the availability of knives. What do you guys think about Coldsteel or CRKT?

If cost is the deciding factor you just can't go wrong with a Cold Steel SRK or Recon Tanto "second"..., or a trusty basic Ka-bar,... or Becker Model 7...really they will all perform flawlessly and set you back Less than $50 American. I'll throw the Junglee Clip Point in there on Jeff Randall's word, too.

spyderken....search the web for the "Cold Steel Special Projects" web site....click on "Factory Seconds", look over what they offer....and if something interests you, e-mail them and inquire about shipping costs !

Factory Seconds?
that sounds a bit like the trash that wasn't good enough for real sale.
ain't gonna last as long as the real deal, will they?

Checked a few things out, the only knives available in belgium are: Buck, Puma, Al Mar ($ 200 - $400) , Gerber, Nietto, Herbertz, Old Timer, Smith & Wesson,Benchmade, Kershaw ... and that's about it :s The only thng left is SOG and those knives are rather expencive :s
For a SOG knife you have to pay about $ 200 (seal Pub) or $ 330 Seal knife.
Damn expensive? what about the quality of Gerber, S&W, puma? Those are the only knives overhere with a reasonable price!!!

Factory seconds are knives CS produced with MINOR cosmetic discrepancies. Usually being a miscalculation is size of the blade (1/16 too thick) or a slight ding or whatnot on the blade. Great steal for the price.

I just ordered a Scimitar from the Closeouts section for 50 bucks! Yay! :D

If you can get ahold of a Gerber Yari, buy it...I have one, and it's an excellent knife, with 154CM steel and linen micarta scales!

They are every bit worth the money, and, yes, they are only cosmetic defects. I got a Trailmaster that arrived with the grinds off. That is it. Perfect in every other way. Funny thing, the edge looks asymetrical, and looks more intentional to me. I will try ot post a pic soon. If you can get one, by all means, do so.

Second a Becker or Fallkniven. The Fallknivens are a little above your price range but should be easy to get in the EC. I'd go for the S1, F1 or Garm. The Garm is similar to your S&W Police Boot Knife but with a shorter double edged blade.

You might also look at the Gerber Yari, Benchmade Nimravus and some of Cold Steel's offerings (e.g. an SRK second).
