Searching for "best" combat fixed blade

you might want to look at Benchmade csk or fixed presidio, the HK14150 my also fit the bill. good luck and stay sharp:D

Striderknives.com they have good price for military and leo, they come with a sheath and will serve you well, no fla fla just what you need they are made to be used no safe queen.

The warranty his awesome, and the service his awesome, you don't have to wait forever to get what you need.

Good luck over there

Well using a blade for combat effectively is more about the user than the knife. Just dont get anything cheap.

if you already have a bayonete just get a good sharpener (bench stone w/ strop/sharpmaker/ect)

or just get a becker necker, it is small yet strong and costs $30 and since it has places to tie it down you can put it wherever you want

Both Kabar and Busse are extremely good for their price range. Strider is also a good way to go if you can afford it. I saw the Nimravus mentioned, it's a great sturdy and light knife that can really compete with bigger knives.

Anyone know how Citizensoldier made out with the knife or when he is deploying? CS, what service are you with and what will you be doing when you get over there? The name of the thread includes the word "Combat" in the title so I assume you are combat arms...but asking what you're doing when you get over there could determine what the folks on the boards recomend.

If you are looking for something study to get the job done you can't go wrong with a K-bar. Sturdy knife. I tried out a lot of knives before going with the RD-7 from Ranger knives.

Justin from Ranger knives was extremly great to work with and the took time to find out what I was looking for in a blade. He took the blade (which was a bit heavy for me) and ground it down a bit to cut down on the weight and make it more manuverable. The blade design is sturdy and beefy enough to dig and chop if need be (e-tool is better, but if you have to dig a small hole, go for it) and still mauverable for other tasks (I used it to cut up meat and veggies for some ka-bobs...yum). The knife is great and comes scalpel like (which scared the crap out of me for a meaty 7 inch blade ).

Another knife I would recomend for the field is several of the knives from the Cold Steel Line. Recon Tanto and SRK are personal favs. I used an SRK for years until I gave it away to a fellow soldier when I left the unit.

A good folder wouldn't hurt either for those times when an LCE isn't an option. Destroythealter mentioned the Nimravus which is another good knife in that size. I would recomend that you stay away from knives like the deathdealer 9000 (wink) while deployed. Good expensive folders are the choice of professionals everywhere but they do no good to you if they come loose from your pocket and get you hung up on another peice of equipment (tie off that knife trooper...break out the 550 cord). Benchmade, Gerber, Columbia River and Spiderco are good choices. Emerson is comming out with a Hard Ware series (http://www.emersonknives.com/HardWear_index.html) but I haven't gotten my hands on one yet to test it out.

Tell ya what though,

I have a benchmade folder (AFCK Model 806 http://www.benchmade.com/products/product_detail.aspx?model=806 ) that is brand new. It has a pretty large blade (4 inch) for a folder with a combo edge. Send me an email with your info and i'll send it to you... email = kroh[at]hazardstudio[dot]net

No charge for the Sarge...

Support your troops,
Regards,
Walt

Welcome to Bladeforums and thanks for your service!

The best knife depends on what you mean to use it for. All the expensive blades in the world won't do you any good if they're too heavy, too clumsy, or flat out prohibited in your unit.

Most military uses for knives seem to revolve around the multitool these days, not the fixed blade, but a medium size fixed blade is a great piece of equipment -- if you really need it.

You might look at Becker Knife & Tool, specifically the BK-10 Crewman or BK-7 Combat/Utility, maybe even the old BK-2 Campanion. These have big, hard handles.

Another popular and tough knife for a combat zone is the Cold Steel SRK.

All of these are high carbon steel, so they will sharpen up well, and they're relatively inexpensive, so you won't have to worry as much about them "taking a walk".
Esav-Reading my mind:)
