anyone know of an experienced knifemaker or bladesmith around northeast georgia? It would be cool to have someone I could pester whewn I had questions. Sort of like a mentor so to speak.

There will be a hammer-in in Blairsville the w/e of the 24th at the Trackrock capmpgrounds and stables.
Look at the sticky thread on the top of the page for details. It's on the last page.

Clayton...my in-laws live in Dillard which is 9 mi from there if I remember right. I am a stock removal guy in training for forgin'...currently active duty Army stuck in a sandy location right now. Isn't there a real neat gun/ knife shop half way in between the 2? I would love to retire in that area in 2 yrs...mighty expensive to get mountain property now. Anyhow Good Luck...keep at it.

There used to be a place called Tiger Mountain Cutlery or Tiger Mountain Knifeworks or something similar in Mountain City. I haven't been there since 2003, so it could be gone now. I think the owner was a stock removal maker, and he had some pretty nice stuff. Seems like the place was just past where you turn off to go to the Foxfire museum if your going north, on the left side of the road.

Hope that helps,:o

Lukek655,
There are several in eastern North Georgia. Most are members of the Georgia Guild and you can find contact information for them at the website Kerry has listed.
Some that come to mind off hand: Scott Davidson, Alto; Mike Wilson, Hayesville, NC; Warren Glover, Cleveland; Gerald, Gerrad, and David White, Hartwell
Of course there are many more.

As Mark stated above, there is a Hammer-in at Trackrock Campgrounds, Blairsville, the weekend of March 24th. See the sticky for more details. Alot of these guys will be there plus many more.
There will be talent from all over the southeast present.

You are welcome to join us. Have a current project with problems, you should be able to get your answers there. Bring some of your work along and share in the experience.

I'm Carl Rechsteiner, president of the Georgia Custom Knifemakers' Guild. I will be there all weekend so look me up.
