Is this any closer? 5 1/2 inch blade, 4 1/4 inch handle...

Looks to be a pretty classic looking bushcrafer. Very nice, I'd buy one if I wasn't broke.

Looks like a practical design for the woods, which is what bushcraft is all about. I might bring that edge all the way down though, that bit right after the handle gets used a ton.
 
Looks nice. The point in particular looks good for drilling.

What's the material and thickness of the blade? Is the spine square?
 
I agree with Spooky about the edge closer to the handle. I'd also like it better if it had a bit less blade length, say 4 or 4.5 inches

When you gonna sell them? I'd buy one
 
a very, very nice well crafted knife!

I'd like it even more with less ricasso and more scandi grind though. The total blade length and the handle could also be reversed, if it were me. I like a longer handle for gloves, different grips, etc. and prefer about a 4.5" blade, although admittedly, I'm not a bushcraft guru, but an average joe-run of the mill small town white trash woodsloafer.

Although don't get me wrong, I'd be mighty damn proud to carry that knife exactly as it is.

I'm with the edge closer to the handle comments.

I'm not keen on limiting my knives only to bushcraft stuff. I believe the extra bit of blade length expands it's food prep capabilities round camp. Framed as field knife that tackles bushcraft too, I think you have a winner. Such field knives are more useful to me than dedicated bushcraft scandis.

We always talk about bushcraft knives in the 4" blade range... but as you said, food prep gets interesting sometimes with such a small blade. Not to mention scandy grinds.

For all your input! I am interested in building a series and offering it with two blade lenghts. This one is 5 1/2 and was thinking about a 3 1/2 to 4 inch model, although I think I see which one most would be interested in. I like scandi grinds also, but right now only set up to flat grind :o, let me go back to the shop with this advice and see what I can turn out... thanks!
Then we will have to talk sheaths!! :D

Get rid of the big ricasso. you want the edge to go almost all the way to the handle and then the handle to be large enough to where your hand isn't forced up on the edge.

If you can't do scandi go for a full flat grind (no secondary angle):thumbup:
 
It needs a handle re-design and bring that edge up close to the handle.. let me see what I can do....
 
I like it because it has some 'belly' to it.

Agree with everyone that the ricasso needs to go, get that edge in closer for fine work. Flat or scandi grind, doesn't matter to me.
 
and I had been forging on this piece of 5160 and it just kept stretching and growing... somehow I don't think this is close to what I was told to do! :p
