Recommendation? Searching for the one

I'm addition to my previous post, moving to the more modern style - Spyderco Delica or Hogue Ritter Mini RSK-G2.

Admittedly, I prefer larger folders, and rarely look at the 3" or under group. If you're okay with a 3.25" blade, I highly recommend the Southern Grind Spider Monkey.

You said no flipper tabs. Is that personal preference or for legal reasons?
I don't own one yet but check out the Spyderco Smock. It is a flipper knife but has a uniquely cut blade that acts as the flipper and not anything like a conventional tab.
Honestly, a bit of both. I really don't like the way flipper tabs look, hate that little pecker sticking out when the knife is closed. But also because if a copy really wants to they could claim its a centrifugal knife.

That Smock looks nice though, I like how the flipper tab doesn't stick out. Adding it to the list.

Knives with flipper tabs are NOT illegal in Canada at all. 😁
You can carry one with confidence. :)
Well, they are and they aren't. They aren't legal to import or bring across the border after the CBSA changed their rules but that doesn't seem to have changed the carry laws. Regardless, if a police officer want's to be a jerk they can claim it's a centrifugal knife. Plus flipper tabs are ugly lol

Well in that case the ZT 562 is also nice solid choice. For slip joints the ZT 230/235 are solid as well.
Both really nice knives, but, one is a bit too big and the others are a bit too small lol

Yep. That tends to happen a lot around here. Good luck on your never ending quest to find the "one". I've been carrying a knife for 35 years or so and still haven't found the "one".

Let us know what you decide on and post a pic when you get it.
Hahaha yes, the easier course of action may be to convince my wife that I kneed all the knives.

Fox Knives Livri.
Very nice but a little too pen knife-ey for me.

The rifter looks really nice, if only it didn't have that cross-bar lock.

The spider money looks really nice too, 3.25" is fine with me. I just prefer smaller knives because I almost never have a need for a bigger blade and a small knife is much more comfortable to carry.

If you like that, try the Spyderco Ikuchi
Nice, almost a gentleman's folder.

The Spider Monkey is a great blade for sure. I put a CF clip on mine, as the standard clip is meh.

If I lived where you are and had the concerns you do I would carry a SAK Alox (probably a SwissBianco carver) or a SAK Spartan.

Both knives are excellent and completely off any policeman's radar. Not the "high end" you are looking for but that means you could buy 4 different versions and rotate them. I would stick to red as this is the traditional SAK non-threatening colour.

I have travelled to many knife unfriendly places and carried some version of a SAK without any problems.

Don't discount the SAK, they are brilliant.

I compeltely agree, there is nothing safer to carry then one of these I just really don't care for them. I would never use any of the other tools and the knife on them isn't great and can only handle very light duty. Plus they are almost all made of terrible blade stock and I just don't find they serrve much purpose apart from opening letters or cutting threads. It's definitely better then no knife at all but just not my thing.

I'm trying to decide if you are having me on or if you simply know nothing about knives. I'm tending toward the latter...........Good luck to you.

But I get what he's saying, I would usually carry a knife along with a SAK, rarely do I carry a SAK by itself. The only exception is if it's a pretty public place with lots of sheeples or private security; last week I was at the roger William's zoo (go visit if you're ever in RI!) and I carried a SAK to cut food and stuff with...didnt feel right whipping out a military especially since RI has a 3incher law i think.

You might be surprised. Pick up a SAK Cadet or Spartan and carry it for three months.

I work with the Army Cadets, we give them to kids. I have a couple and I just don't care for them. Apart from the bottle opener I find the tools borderline useless and the knife itself just doesn't do it for me. Nothing against people that like them, they're just not for me. I really wish they offered them in a better steel, might consider one made a little more premium.

Yes, it's definitely a socially acceptable knife. No one will bat an eye if you pull out a SAK, even many gentlemen folders will get a bad reaction from certain types of people

No locks that turn the knife into a gravity knife when pressed (Button, cross-bar etc)
No flipper tabs
No agro design
Open to slip joints but no "old man" knives
Something functional and beautiful
Budget ~300 CAD but less would be better.

I'd first focus on the lock. Not many choices there if you want to prevent a LEO to force it open with gravity: backlock or Spyderco CBBL are example locks that pull a knife close, and will withstand also the most unfair "gravity test". So my first two recommendations are Native 5 (3" BL) or Manix 2 (3.37" BL). You can get them with really cool steel (e.g., S110V)

Or a slippy (but not "old man". Not sure if I qualify as young enough :D): how about the Hinderer Slippy ? Made for your purposes, actually.

Roland.

The lock is definitely the sticking poin. I actually have a Manix 2 in s110v, it's my favorite knife but the lock does turn it into a gravity knife. Like the looks of the Native 5, might see if there's a cool special edition out there.

Love that Hinderer Slippy but so expensive, darn.

CAD 378 at warriorsandwonders. They come up for less than 300 on the exchange here every so often. But the Native 5 is a cool knife. My first modern knife, that got me here, the s110v version with liners. Still love it. You probably will see Magnacut or s45vn in the Native soon, just a guess.

I may have to keep an eye out for a sale on the Slippy.

S110v is a great steel for certain tasks but I find it a bit chippy, I love my Manix 2 in it but I've put a couple of chips in it with just moderate usage so now I'm scared to used it lol

Looking over Native 5 options, I like the looks of the black G10 in s90v or S35Vn. There one in Rex 45 but it's burnt orange, looks kinda interesting. I'm not huge on Spyderco's FRN scales otherwise I'd go with a spy27 version as it's a decent enough steel at the price. There's a fluted titanium version in S35vn too, looks great but getting a little pricy. I see the S110v version still has the "dark blue" (but really more purple) scales of the Manix 2.

I keep hearing about Magnacut, looks like it will be a nice steel. If I didn't want the knife for a camping trip in 2 weeks I'd definitely wait for it.

Man you murdered the crap out of that dogfood!

Edit: I mean, why use the pull tab when you can stab it :D
