Figured since I was mentioned, I'd better jump in.... I do have the Milwaukee saw.... catalog number 6236. As Steve mentioned, I've been thinking about switching to the Dewalt, because when I use mine for a long duration or heavy use (like when I accordion cut 2" mosaic billets) it gets hot to the point where I need to shut it down and let it cool for a while. I may be overtaxing it, because there are times I'm standing in front of it for an hour or two straight. The model I have actually has a slider switch for HI/LO speed. I set it on high speed, zip tied the trigger down, and wired it into a plug box that is switch controlled. (I built a full floor stand for my saw)
I've seen/used those commercial stands that are available on Ebay and elsewhere..... I don't like them at all. They are flimsy, and not suitable for anything but the lightest cutting jobs in my opinion.
I think the portabands are just the ticket for a knifemaker's shop. The cut extremely well, they are compact...not taking up much room (even with a stand), and the big key......the consumables (blades, parts, bearings, etc) are affordable and easy to obtain. It does fall short in the respect of cutting depth (only 4 1/2" on my saw), but to me thats a small price to pay when compared to the initial cost, and consumables costs of larger saws.
