Sears Craftsman

I have a little craftsman stockman in carbon steel with the traditional pinned bolster. I wish I could get a photo to post. I love the brass bolsters. The blades sure look like Schrade to me but the pins had me wondering......

Schrade and Camillus and maybe Imperial were using the stamp whenever it seemed like a good idea, just as they sometimes used 'Hammer Brand," and 'Schrade Walden' into the late years of the firms. They used 'Schrade Walden' stamps until into 1973, although they had moved to Ellenville in 1958. They then resurrected that stamp for many very late issues into the 1990s and later. Then after the bankruptcy, Camillus ran a bunch with the stamp. And then Taylor also used 'Schrade Walden' on Bear and Son knives. And the pre-1947 stampings on some others. Unless one knows the fine points, tang stamps throughout the cutlery industry is a real maze.

Hi. The forum stopped providing email forwarding after the site upgrade. I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your grandfather. It sounds like you've done some research on the knife. Here's a scan from a 1972 Sears catalog showing the knife. It may also be of interest that around 1972 was the last of the Ulster brand name. The Ellenville plant continued to be used by Imperial Knife Associated Companies, Inc. Some of the guys in the Schrade collector forum may have more info about your knife.

Wow thank you for your help! I appreciate it greatly!

I have a few Craftsman knives and they have been verified to be made by Camillus. All except the one in the middle being made by Buck.
