Hello Everyone,
I am posting a package for sale here. I have made a traditional seax, complete with matching maple scabbard. The seax has an 10.5" blade, 1.5" wide.

It is composed of three core bars, the bar on the spine is 9 layers of 15n20 and 1080, welded and twisted.

This bar is hammer-welded (hand hammer in forge) to two more bars of mono-1080.

The handle and the scabbard both come from the same piece of luthier quality curly maple. Unfortunately, the chatoyance within the wood runs the length of the handle, so it is not as obvious in pictures. The scabbard and handle are both beautiful wood, and they make the light dance.

The scabbard has a copper throat and chape, and there are copper spacers in the seax.

I am asking $450.00 for these.

pm me if you are interested in this or something simillar.

Thanks for looking,

Kevin

Thanks Dave -
I forgot to mention to the forum that I heat-treated this one at Dave's. He has a controlled kiln and a champagne cooler full of heated Parks #50.

So, the heat-treat on this blade is very precise. It was done to create a good balance for a large chopping blade.

It was tempered for 3 1-hour cycles, at 400F, 420F, and 425F.

This should place it overall at RC 57-59 (the tang area was drawn to a much softer temper).

I have a private offer.

Kevin

Kevin, I have a bunch of knives but nothing like this. It is a grand period piece. Anyone considering this sort of blade couldn't do better than your work. It is spectacular! Thanks

Beautiful work Kevin.

I am looking forward soon, to showing everyone the blade you are making for me. :D
