Pix to come of the progress, but here's the text.

Got Sweet's and Raghorn's masked, with the designs cut and ready for etching. Just masked and drew the runes on the mask of Beoram's Seax, getting ready to cut the mask, and Ruels and Pen's are masked and are still being laid out (lotsa runes).

Tonight, we etch Sweets, Raghorns, Beos seaxes and take some pix. Sweet, Raghorn, Beo, is it okay if we share some pix of your seaxes w/ the Cantina? Ruel's and Pen's will be etched on Sat/Sun.

Sarge, yours are installed in the Library (read "Armory") for safe keeping. I'll etch yours next week if I don't get to it this weekend. I know you want me to hold them til you return.

I'll be mailing all of them next week. I don't like to ship blades in sheaths, so I will wrap them separately. The blade will arrive in plastic with a light coat of silicon lubricant.

Caring for your recently etched seax:
Etching is an invasive process to steel, and thus the etch requires a bit of regular maintenance and attention for the first few weeks.
You will find that the etch will really suck up oils and other liquids-This is due to the porosity of the etched area of the blade. You want to make sure that the liquid is good stuff (lubrication oils, silicone, etc) and not a rust-causing oxidant (like water, or even water vapor or high humidity).. After a few weeks, the etch will stabilize and just look cool.

More to come...

Mpisi... Your HI PK will also be etched in this batch. Buttcap carving after that.

Hey Keith, no problem with posting up pics or after I get it I can take a few and host/post them up (no digital so takes me a day or 2 for a roll and development) Will you do a group shot with the ones you finish b4 sending? Just recieved my Seax that I purchased the otherday 2day, nice, blade is clean, scabbard good, horn handle will be comming off with exotics going on (not sure which wood yet)....cant wait to see my wooden handle with Runes!

Anxious is an understatement. Keith has my Pen Knife to etch like the passaround one, but also with runes and a design on the buttcap. I can hardly wait! Now I'm just pouting that I won't get to show it off as much since the seaxes (seaxii? sexy!) will get released before :D But don't rush the artist or you'll get an unflattering portrait!

We're doing a few other cool things to your pen knife as well. the buttcap will be awesome!

Keith, I'd be proud for you to post pics of mine. I'll be happy to shoot and post some for you later if you wish also. :)

We?

I told you take your time and I meant it. I just gotta remind myself of that sometimes LOL

i'm interested in why you don't ship blades in sheaths? I thought that would have been the best place for them?

B-cause the tanninns in leather are acidic and can rust the blade. The leather sheath can also hold moisture or water vapor which will condense on the blade.

Mpisi: Yours goes out next week. Still working on it.

Beoram, Sweet, and Raghorn:
Your seaxes are done, and going out tomorrow. Pics up tomorrow!

Pen, Ruel: Finishing yours up tomorrow. They go out on Tuesday.

Sarge, yours will be done next week, so shoot me an email when you are ready for mr to send it.

Thanks for your patience, all!

I'm leaving for Blade on Thursday. So take your time. Arrival next week would be fine with me.

Yep!!!! The reason the khuks don't rust and etch in their scabbards is because of the wooden liners.
I have an old pre WW II Marble's Ideal that spent many years in its sheath. The steel looks almost like damascus from the etch, but it also has very small ridges instead of being smooth like watered steel, still very interesting though and an excellent knife as well.

And such is the beauty of after market veggie tanned sheaths because they won't do that to blade. Problem is that most people don't know the difference and just think leather is leather and all the same.

fer making ya guyz wait on the etched seaxes. they will go out tomorrow. Got busy here. They are packed and red-t-go.
