Nothing big here.. just thought i would start this with my problem and end it with the outcome....( that makes sense)
I purchased a new Lrg Regular Sebbie... in march, which also happened to be made in March 2008... and used it for about 3-4 weeks now.... Out of box the knife was dull... and the lockbar traveled to about 75%... I was able to adjust the lockup and of course.. sharpen the blade..... But since.... I have taken it apart ... sharpened it a few times and my off center blade is still there, no surprise...
-My main issue is that the blade has been chipping very easily.... My edge is at 40 degrees total on the sharpmaker and then i do a single stroke at about 45 total to strengthen the edge...
Edge retention has been great... But the blade has been chipping even after a few sharpenings.... and a chip about 1/2 mm came of near the tip from use on wood for making mallow sticks for some friends.....
Hopefully this will be fixed... I should have it back in a week or so....
Just thought i would share this and follow up with a short review of customer service afterward....
Boy.. do i miss that sebbie....:(.....

I played with the idea of getting another... and i placed an order with NGK on a friday about 3 weeks ago for another lrg regular... and they sold it the next day on saturday... So i did not get it....
I figure with the price i payed... I do not / and should not need another.. EVER!:p....
It sucks.... I really dont care for any of my other knives anymore... But thats just what happens.. i guess?:D

I hear ya, most of my customs have been sold to buy more Sebbies. Its very hard to EDC a Sebbie and go back to ANY other knife. Customs included in my case.

I will keep all my Spydies though:D

I hear that.......
Sebbie with a spyder hole....
Perfect duo.... para mili/ sebbie.....
I just hope they consider replacing the blade considering it chips.... Unless they know it will stop chipping.... Is that really possible to know? hmmm....

Two of my Sharpmaker white sticks have a few bumps (little lumps). I stopped using those sticks thinking the bumps may mess up the edge of the blade.

thats possible for you...
But it is not my stones...
I also free handed it twice....

I have a Pacific that chipped on things you would never have expected it to when new but now its been sharpened back a few times it seems to be fine.
Iv not had any problems with my Seb. but its had no where near the same sort of use as the Pacific has. I just use my Seb for "softer" around the house kind of stuff.

It's not that unknown for S30V to result in the odd blade chipping whereit's thinnest after HT. I had the problem with a spyderco but it got better after a while. Of course if it's something a bit more I'm sure CRK will sort it.

First let me say i feel your pain in sending in your sebbie, hope it turns out ok

2nd, i said the same thing when i got my small regular, i will never ever need a another. How wrong i was, two years later in 2001 i called crk spoke to bridget and placed an order for a small woodie. I had to wait a whole year to get her, my only request was wood with charactor. So 1 year later in 2002 , Bridget called me then sent me few pictures of two knives, one was a small desert iron wood. The second was a lightcolored wooded small box elder ironicly, born on my birthday. March 23rd 2002.One of the good things was i had one year to save the money

I have noticed that I have some chipping after just cutting some heavy construction paper...sad I know. I've sharpened about three times now. I'm going to run a test by cutting various items and see what happens. It the chipping continues I'll have to call CRK and see what they can do.

Whoa, Gentlemen---sounds like some serious stuff. I'll be curious with the outcome. Good luck to all of you!

Cool! If you ever decide to sell it...my birthday is March 23rd also:D

Thanks for the replies guys....
They got my knife in today.. So i should hear something soon........
Like some of you said... S30V has been known to chip... But so have the other good steels( 154cm and D2 from Benchmade both chipped for me also on two rare occasions...... ) But thats out of Dozens of knives.....
Mainly... I dont care if it was a dud.... I just want it fixed......
I have had many knives in S30V in the past from spyderco and never had a problem to this degree....
Im interested to see what they think about this......
As long as it is fixed, i will be glad to have it back.... Even so.... it is the best knife i have ever owned.... And needs to last me....
Matt

I wonder if the "issue" is with the way the CRs are heat treated? There are tons of S30v blades out there by other companies. They aren't all chipping.

S30V hasn't impressed me in Production are Custom knives. It just hasn't lived up to the hype IMHO. But I have been impressed with CPM154. Larry

Issues with S30V is the reason all but one of my Sebenza's are BG42. Larry

Right on Larry! This is exactly what I was harping about in another thread. No new CRK for me unless the steel is not S30V...:barf:
