Sebenza 21 Large or 25? Which would you get?

Emm, did you get your hinderer 2ndhand or new? If it is rattling I am sure there is something not right. I have also an XM18 3.5 spanto. Its attention to detail is excellent, beautiful lockup, blah blah.... but somehow or rather the 21 and Umnumzaan sings more to me especially the 21. Like today, I etc the hinderer but during the day I am thinking of the 21.

Comparing both, the 21 is thinner handle slimmer profile, lighter, easier to maintain and cuts much better than the hinderer.
Got mine brand new from Knife Center. Great and fast service!

I am suspecting the rattling could be caused by the loose blade stop bar resting just right at the top and front of the frame because the stop bar rotates round and round on the frame. Another contributing factor could also be from the not so tight fastener at the very end of the handle scale. I tightened it up some and the rattling disminished but is not completely eliminated. Sometimes I can even hear rattling sound when shaking the XM-18 vigorously. I discovered it when trying to open the blade using inertia.

I actually bought the Hinderer because the thicker and more rugged blade should be able to handle most of any task that one may need to put it through other than finer slicing tasks. The Sebenza would be more for situation where I would need it to slice than pry. Things like opening envelopes, peeling orange skins and so on. More day to day tasks for someone living in the city.

I've had many iterations of CRK Sebenzas and like my micarta 25s the best so far. I have both left and right-handled models.

I also have a large micarta 21 and like it as well. To me it's more of a "gentleman's" knife than a 25, and I have both left and right handed plain 25s also.

I do not see a difference with the pivot bushing, with the 25 you just tighten it to the point of no blade play and smooth opening, and stop there. No biggie in real life really.

The 21 is the classic CRK Sebenza, so you cannot go wrong.

I had a large micarta Insingo and traded it for an Umnunzaan. But the small micarta Insingo seems to be a favorite. I think I'll get a CF small Insingo as my next CRK just to try it, and for the office. But I'd only carry a large model after work. That's just me.

Thanks for sharing your experiences bro!

Hey bro, I am kind of spending less time in CPF and more time here. Darn the new addiction! Haha!

I am now considering the possibility of getting a large with Insingo blade. I dislike the look of it but I know the benefits of the design in actual use. I want a CF scale but that's the only option I can get if I go large. With small I still have the option of both blade designs.

That's great!! This is a dangerous place. Before you know it....you will have more knives than you know what to do with!!! Haha.

I had the same reservations about the insingo. Not very nice looking. But I can say that after carrying and using it for the last two weeks straight......it's awesome!!! Not sure why I waited so long to try one.

It's the most useful blade shape I ever used for edc tasks and kitchen uses. I will get a large one day after I replace the umnumzaan I had.

The insingo really impresses me more and more every day that I use it. I honestly never thought I would feel this way.

I EDC'd an Xm-18 wharncliffe, and althoigh I loved the blade shape, it's no where near as useful as the insingo.

Hard to explain until you actually start carrying and using one.

Get both!

It depends, for most tasks the small is sufficient, I carry a small while in the office.
If you spend time outdoors, then the relations change and the large isn't that large anymore.
So I'd start with a large plain Ti scales and if need be add a small with inlays.

I agree with the plain Jane large or inlayed small.

No problem at all my friend. Best of luck with your decision, you'll probably end up like many of us and have a handful of different models, some bought and some traded for, before you are done. They are addicting!

You know what? That's what I am afraid of. Lol!
