Sebenza 21: Single or Double Thumb Studs?

Double silver thumb studs for me everyday, all day. I'm just not a fan of a single thumb stud on any knife. I realise a single stud is pure function, but where's the harm in a little form now and then ? :p

What he said. For me, silver comes before double.

Single is fine with me but with knives like Annuals, short runs, etc. I prefer the look of the double lug. My last Annual has dual gold lugs and I consider it an "upgrade" as some of the Annuals that year did not come with dual lugs.

For those of you that have the single Blue stud, does the Blue seem to wear off pretty quickly?

Normally I would say double, but on the Sebenza I think the single looks better. Just because it bothers me when a clearly right handed knife has a stud for left hand opening. It doesn't have the same cut out on the lefty side to access the stud, and it doesn't have a reversible pocket-clip, so aesthetically, why have it. I know it can probably be opened easily with the left index finger flick, its just doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Not logical I know, just a preference.

If I'm going to carry it, I prefer a double. For a collector, I couldn't care less.

You know I've been too focused on symmetry to focus on the function part. I notice what you mean about the cutout being different. While I would probably not open it left handed, it probably wouldn't be as easy to do so anyway.

I'm thinking that with this next Large Micarta Insingo, I might just get the single stud since it's going to be a work knife, and carried a lot. I think the nicer inlaid ones (wood/carbon fiber/etc.) probably might be a different story though.

I don't use the back side of the double, and I don't think it works very well anyway.

That said, it doesn't bother me. I'll take them either way.

Single for me. If both hands are free, I usually pinch mine open anyway. That method draws a lot less negative opinions to knife owners..

+1 on the two hand opening. I prefer the double as I mentioned earlier but using two hands seems more acceptable in public.

True, is it. I was at a gathering at my apartment a few weeks back, sitting there half drunk when I decided to open the mail I'd picked up earlier. Out came my Hinderer, and FLICK. Some of the folks there definitely didn't like the sight of that knife. :o

Next time I'll just carry a Mnandi...........

I prefer double lugs and would pay extra for one BUT I have generally found good enough deals in the secondary market that I happily settle for singles.

Single lug looks great closed, but goofy when opened. It's also very impractical to open left handed.

Double studs are more practical. Every once in a while I need to open my folder with my off hand, double studs make it doable. No user knife should have a single thumb stud.

I chose "single stud is fine" because it's fine. :P As a righty I don't really feel the need to send my knife in for the double. With that said, I would love to see the 21 updated with a sort of "25 treatment" and given the double out of the box, the ceramic ball, the new lanyard method, but keep the bushing and the same lines and thickness/grind. That, to me, would be CRK perfection.
