When I go to chrisreeves direct and look at their options for direct orders they don't seem to have snakewood as an option?

However i did find a snakewood tear drop Damascus small sebenza 21 for sale for a good price ( brand new for 604 USD with coupon ) from an authorized dealer.

Does anyone know why snakewood isn't an option from CRK direct but I see them on some authorized dealers.

Discontinued for 2017

Thanks.

Just to double check, So that means discontinued for 2017 and onwards onto the foreseeable future or discontinued only for 2017?

If I can get a nice small snakewood damascus for 604 it doesn't sound like a bad idea if they are discontinued?

They changed the wood inlays I believe early 2017, late 2016. Correct, no longer available for the foreseeable future.
I don't see why it would be a bad deal. The inlays are very durable and you won't likely have any issues with it

Fantastic, thanks you for the information. I had no idea snakewood wasn't openly available until today.

There's still a few hanging out in the wild, I've just seen one available and the seller is really proud of it. And it's not even Damascus on the blade.
If it's calling your name, you probably need to give it a new home.

As my fellow forum colleagues mentioned above, they discontinued and replaced wood inlays:

Snakewood
Gabon Ebony
Bocote
Cocobolo

They kept Box Elder Burl and introduced

Spalted Beech
Boag Oak
Thuya
Macassar

I believe they do this every few years, in order to re-fresh their program and to react to availability of certain wood.

To support your decision for Snakewood :)

Hopefully I'm not breaking any rules here but I ended up passing on the snakewood, but the handle looks really good if anyone is looking for one at 615 USD brand new with rain drop damascus DLT Trading has two in stock.

My favorite was #2. I just don't have the funds to go for it so I don't mind helping someone else out if they wanted it.

To be completely honest I just couldn't get passed the raindrop damascus design, it was so all over the place my eyes just couldn't dig it.

I know we were talking snakewood but..
That third one in from the left ( the bright redish looking one ) is absolutely a stunner. What's that wood called?

Fantastic line up my friend.

That box elder burl must have clicked all the right boxes, if you're on the hunt again already. (I understand - I love snakewood, too)

Haha yes it did good sir! I ended up going with a thuya burl Mnandi instead of the snakewood but it was a close call. ( The deciding factor for me was that I enjoyed the basketweave damascus over the new raindrop. )

Here is an image of my knife on the way!

And of course now I will have a 60 dollar coupon to put to good use courtesy of KSF from " loyalty points ".. I really do have to thank you once again for the heads up. You've opened me up to a whole new world of collecting.

It's soothing for me, I'm already plotting out my next knife! :D

KSF still has some plain blade snakewood options, or I could get a severely discounted plain large Sebenza. I'll be on the lookout.o_O

I was on the hunt for a snakewood Mnandi, for some time; but I couldn't find the right one. I haven't necessarily given up on the idea; but I've actually tossed around the idea of selling my large 21 snakewood, since it is now pretty unlikely that I'll find the right Mnandi with which to pair it. (If I do that, I'll probably also sell my large insingo micarta & grab KSF's large Inkosi insingo (red linen micarta) when it becomes available.

Good guess from LW, but it is not Bloodwood. It is Cocobolo:

21, Cocobolo, Raindrop, 05

Bloodwood is lets say "finer" in its wood grain:

Classic, Bloodwood, Ladder, 06

Direct comparison (Bloodwood left, Cocobolo right):

Classic, Bloodwood, Ladder, 10

Classic, Bloodwood, Ladder, 11

Btw.: My Classic Bloodwood is born November 2007

That is an extremely amazing cocobolo ( What was the date of creation? I thought originally you meant 2005 but now I'm not sure if it's just number listings for the images. )

All the ones I can find are either dark brown, or almost orangish brown. You're either really good at lighting or that was a fantastic find ( or both. ) Even in the first image it looks so vibrant.

Do you mind if I ask you do you order direct from CRKs? I've been hesitant to do so because I'm not quite sure how much leeway
I would have with wood grain requests,

but I would love try it out to custom make some of the harder to find models in certain combinations.
